WTCR Qualifying flash: Girolami heads Honda team-mate Guerrieri

Néstor Girolami scorched to the Race 1 pole position by pipping his ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport team-mate Esteban Guerrieri, in an eventful qualifying session at WTCR Clean Fuels for All Race of France on the streets of Circuit de Pau-Ville. Girolami secured the pole position by topping the top-five Q3 shoot-out, after the Q2 session was interrupted by a heavy accident for Thed Björk in his Cyan Performance Lynk & Co, from which the Swede was fortunate to emerge uninjured. In the 30-minute Q1 session, Mikel Azcona’s BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse Elantra N TCR topped the times ahead of Girolami, Gilles Magnus (Audi), Guerrieri and Ma Qing Hua (Lynk & Co).

As the top 12 progressed to Q2, six drivers missed the cut.

Tiago Monteiro reckons Attila Tassi is no longer his pupil but is equal as they prepare for season five of the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup. Monteiro and Tassi have been team-mates for the past three campaigns and continue their Honda-powered partnership in 2022 after joining LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler. Honda-powered Engstler duo get WTCR bid on track

Tiago Monteiro and Attila Tassi have begun their preparations for the 2022 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup with a two-day test at Autodrom Most. Monteiro and Tassi were announced as Liqui Moly Team Engstler drivers for the upcoming campaign back in January and will drive a pair of Goodyear-equipped Honda Civic Type R TCR racers.

A young star came to the fore at the Hungaroring on August 22, 2021 when Gilles Magnus scored his first victory in the WTCR − FIA World Touring Car Cup after leading Race 1 at WTCR Race of Hungary all the way from pole position. Driving a Goodyear-equipped, second-generation Audi RS 3 LMS, the Comtoyou Team Audi Sport driver headed team-mate Frédéric Vervisch for most of the race, until Mikel Azcona forced his way past on the last lap to claim second. Yann Ehrlacher also passed Vervisch in the scramble to claim a podium and assume his new status as Goodyear #FollowTheLeader.
