ZHANGJIAKOU, China : Therese Johaug brushed off the high winds at the National Cross-Country Skiing Centre to breeze to victory in the women's 30km mass start and claim her third individual gold medal of the Beijing Games, which she said would be her final Olympics.
Norway’s Therese Johaug won gold in the 30 kilometre mass start to secure a hat-trick of titles at Beijing 2022 and close her Olympic career with victory. Johaug had won the 10km classical and 15km skiathlon events earlier in the Games, and survived a ferocious wind to prevail after nearly an hour and a half of tough racing.
Cross-country skiing remains the main driving force behind Norway's success at the Olympic Winter Games. Their standards are so high in the sport, that their eight medals at Beijing 2022 might look like an underwhelming result compared to the 14 of PyeongChang 2018.
