The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was marred by chaos surrounding the captaincy change at Mumbai Indians (MI). The five-time champions made a big call heading in the IPL 2024, replacing long-serving skipper Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya, with the franchise bringing him back from Gujarat Titans as part of an all cash deal. This led to further speculations of a rift between Rohit and Hardik. This alleged bad blood between the two led to MI finishing at the bottom spot in the points.
The upcoming season of Duleep Trophy will be a great spectacle as many big names from India's senior men's team will be featuring in the domestic league. The BCCI men's selection committee on Wednesday announced the squads for the first round of the 2024-25 Duleep Trophy. The Duleep Trophy, which marks the beginning of red-ball cricket in the domestic season, will see some of the finest players from the international circuit and some of the young and emerging talent compete at the highest level. The tournament is set to begin from September 5, 2024, in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh and M Chinnaswamy stadium, Bengaluru.

The teams for the tournament will be selected later this month by the panel led by Ajit Agarkar. However, most of the other centrally contracted players are expected to participate in the four-team competition. Among the players who will draw significant attention are KL Rahul, who missed four of the five Tests against England earlier this year due to injury, and Rishabh Pant, who might be playing his first red-ball match since fully recovering from a car accident in December 2022.
India men's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav will be playing the pre-season Buchi Babu Invitational tournament for Mumbai from third round of the league stage, confirmed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). In a statement issued by Joint Secretary Deepak Patil, MCA said Suryakumar will feature in Mumbai's match against TNCA XI starting on August 27 in Coimbatore. Mumbai, the current Ranji Trophy holders, are placed alongside TNCA XI and Haryana in Group C of the 2024 edition of the Buchi Babu tournament, starting on August 15.
