Warner slams 164 as Australia take control against Pakistan
The list for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Player Auction has been unveiled with 333 players set to go under the hammer in Dubai on December 19 ahead of the new season. Australia's World Cup-winning stars Travis Head, Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins headline the list of 119 overseas players. Starc, who represented RCB in 2014 and 2015, returns to the Player Auction for the first time since 2018, while Head went unsold ahead of IPL 2023. Meanwhile, Cummins had pulled out of IPL 2023 due to international commitments. Starc was bought buy Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 9.4 crore, but the player decided not to feature due to the same reason.
David Warner brushed off scathing criticism from former teammate Mitchell Johnson over his selection for Australia's Test series against Pakistan, saying on Friday: "Everyone's entitled to their own opinions."
Australia opener Usman Khawaja believes there is no need to shift Marnus Labuschagne or anyone else to open once David Warner concludes his Test career, stating that given the difficulties of the task, a specialist should perform the job. With Labuschagne playing at the No.3 position in the batting order, the left-handed batter believes it would be hazardous to move him ahead of the Pakistan series. Khawaja was asked about the possibility of Labuschagne being moved up to open the batting when Warner's Test career expires later this summer, most likely following the third Test against Pakistan in Sydney in the new year. "Have you asked Marnus this? I think he would give you a really clear, 'hell no'. Marnus has got opening-it is...I think that is a long shot," Khawaja was quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Australia cricket team batter David Warner took to social media to express concern and extend his support for the people affected by the devastating floods in Chennai. In the past two days, Chennai and some other areas of Tamil Nadu were hit by the cyclonic storm Michaung and it led to massive flooding and power outages. Warner took to social media platform Instagram to share a video of the Chennai floods and urged his followers to support the people who are currently suffering in the region.
MELBOURNE: Home tests against an undermanned Pakistan may struggle to excite even the most ardent Australian cricket fan but angst over David Warner's farewell tour has given the series a much-welcomed boost.
David Warner's inclusion in the Australia team for the Test series against Pakistan has become a subject of serious debate, with suggestions being made that the opening batter didn't deserve to be included in the team. Former Australia pacer Mitchell Johnson, in his column, launched a sharp attack at Warner and the Australian selectors after he was added to the Test roster despite poor form. Johnson's criticism of Warner hasn't been welcomed by many, with Australia batter Usman Khawaja calling the comments by the former Aussie star "harsh".
Pakistan's experienced wicketkeeper-batter Sarfaraz Ahmed laid out the team's plans to ruin Australia's star batter David Warner's farewell Test series. The Men in Green are currently in Canberra to play a 4-day game against the Australian PM XI ahead of the series, which will be played on December 9. After this game, Pakistan will face Australia in the first Test on December 14 in Perth, a game for which Warner has been named in the squad. Ahead of the clash, Sarfaraz stated the team's intentions to spoil Warner's special day and said, as quoted from Geo News, "We will try to get him out as soon as we can; we will try not to let him get off to a good start." The right-handed batter talked about the quality of the Kangaroos and made a vow that the team would play their best cricket.
