"Trickier" Than Lasith Malinga: PBKS Star's Huge Praise For CSK Youngster

Zimbabwe all-rounder and Punjab Kings batter Sikandar Raza lauded Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana and said the young pacer is much more trickier to read than Sri Lanka great Lasith Malinga. Sikandar said that Pathirana, who is playing in the IPL 2023 for Chennai Super Kings, is more trickier bowler than Malinga as his bowling action comes lower. "Pathirana is a quality talent. I remember that [Lasith] Malinga was hard enough to face but Pathirana is just a bit trickier. His arm comes lower. Malinga was side on, I remember. On that wicket, with those cutters and his 145kph pace, you just didn't know what's coming. Alhamdulillah, to be able to score those runs! I was just trying to find a boundary so I was lucky to get those three runs. I hit it into a gap. I guess when it's your day, luck favours you in weird ways," the Zimbabwe player said.

Fresh from their win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Punjab Kings (PBKS) now take on Mumbai Indians (MI) in an IPL 2023 match in Mohali. With five wins in nine games, PBKS occupy the sixth spot in the points table, and look to register back-to-back wins only for the second time this season. PBKS have struggled at the top of the game, barring the game against CSK. In the reverse fixture last month, PBKS defeated Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.

Watch: How Sikandar Raza Ruined MS Dhoni's Plan To Clinch Last-Over Win For Punjab Kings

Sikandar Raza outsmarted MS Dhoni's well laid out plans to clinch a thrilling last-ball win for Punjab Kings against Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Sunday. With 3 runs needed from the final delivery, Dhoni made a few changes to the field with three fielders on the leg side along with a sweeper cover and a long-off. The plan was to target the leg stump and make sure that Raza was not able to hit a boundary. However, Raza was able to guide the ball above backward square leg and although the ball was stopped before the boundary, the batters ran three to win the game. It was a rare instance when “Captain Cool” was not able to implement his masterplan.

"Plans Wrong Or Execution Bad?": MS Dhoni's Blunt Take On Chennai Super Kings' Loss vs Punjab Kings In IPL 2023

Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was left ruing the four-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings in their own den, saying the bowlers need to be more aware of the situation and also indicated that the execution was probably "bad". CSK had a good chance of victory after posting 200 for four at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, thanks chiefly to another Devon Conway special of unbeaten 92, but the Shikhar Dhawan-led side hit the winning runs off the last ball to silence the yellow brigade on Sunday. "We lost it in a couple of overs in the middle. You need to be aware what you need to bowl and be clear because the batters will be going for it (big hits). (Matheesha) Pathirana bowled well but other than that, we need to see if the plans were wrong or the execution was bad," said Dhoni.

Punjab Kings pulled off a thrilling chase of 201 against Chennai Super Kings and registered their fifth win of IPL 2023 on Sunday. Asked to bowl first, PBKS conceded 200/4 in 20 overs, courtesy of the unbeaten 92-run knock from Devon Conway. Later, the Shikhar Dhawan-led side struggled a bit but eventually found their way out after Sikandar Raza smashed the winning three runs on the last ball of the match. Apart from such a thrilling encounter, one thing which grabbed a lot of attention was a cheeky stumping CSK skipper MS Dhoni to dismiss Prabhsimran Singh.

Chasing 201 for a win, Punjab needed nine runs from the final over bowled by Matheesha Pathirana who conceded just two from the first three deliveries. But Raza remained calm under immense pressure, scoring two runs each from the next two deliveries.

Hard-hitting knocks from Prabhsimran Singh and Liam Livingstone powered Punjab Kings (PBKS) to a four-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday. With this win, PBKS is in the fifth spot in the table with five wins and four wins, a total of 10 points.
