Records Tumble As Abhishek Sharma Slams Maiden T20I Century In 2nd Game vs Zimbabwe

Playing in just his second T20I for India, young opening batter Abhishek Sharma slammed his maiden century in the second match of a five-game series against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday. After completing his half-century in 33 balls, Abhishek took just 13 more deliveries to reach triple figures. He smashed seven fours and eight sixes at a strike rate of 212, but got out on the very next ball after completing his century. Abhishek, who was dismissed for a duck on his debut, became the fastest Indian batter, in terms of innings, to score a century for India in T20I cricket.

An inexperienced yet spirited Zimbabwe pulled off an upset of massive proportions when they stunned an Indian team brimming with an array of Next-Gen stars by 13 runs in the first T20I of the five-match series in Harare on Saturday. India, who were recently crowned champions in the T20 World Cup albeit with a different set of players, were expected to trot past an unfancied Zimbabwe and the script followed that line when the hosts were restricted to 115 for nine.

The 2024 T20 World Cup-winning players Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube got an entry into India's playing XI for the third T20I against Zimbabwe on Wednesday. All the three players were unavailable for the first two games as their return from Barbados after the T20 World Cup triumph was delayed. Khaleel Ahmed was another player, who got an entry into India's playing XI, after being rested in the second T20I. The likes of Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Sai Sudharsan and Mukesh Kumar have been dropped to make way for the new entries.

Speaking about the moment that he won his team the match, the Zimbabwean all-rounder said, "It's the stuff of dreams. From my point of view, we needed this win to stay alive in the competition. And a win like that goes a long way to boost our confidence. It has suddenly made us believe that we can win from any position. We are confident that we can make it to the semifinals. Going into the game against MI Emirates, we have a chance to stay in the hunt for the playoffs because of this win."

Zimbabwe celebrated Tuesday after winning their first T20 international against Sri Lanka in dramatic fashion to square the three-match series in Colombo. Chasing a target of 174, Zimbabwe required 20 runs off the last over bowled by Angelo Mathews, triumphing by four wickets. Mathews, Sri Lanka's hero with the bat with an unbeaten 66, was hit for three sixes in the final over as Zimbabwe knocked off the target with a ball to spare. Zimbabwe's Luke Jongwe, who smashed 25 not out off 12 balls with two fours and two sixes, was named man of the match.

Sri Lanka pulled off a thrilling three-wicket win over Zimbabwe in a last ball thriller in the first T20I in Colombo on Sunday. Requiring six runs off the last two balls, tail-ender Dushmantha Chameera smashed a boundary off the penultimate ball. Then he pushed the last ball to square leg, scampering for two runs to keep Sri Lanka's unbeaten record against Zimbabwe in T20 Internationals intact. Sri Lanka owed the win to 36-year-old former captain Angelo Mathews who, playing his first T20 International in almost three years, top scored with 46.

Janith Liyanage 95 Gives Sri Lanka Hard Fought Win Over Zimbabwe

A back to the wall 95 by middle order batsman Janith Liyanage helped Sri Lanka beat Zimbabwe by two wickets in the second ODI of the three-match series in Colombo on Monday. Chasing 209 to win, Sri Lanka struggled as left-arm seamer Richard Ngarava troubled the batsmen with extra bounce. Ngarava claimed the first four Sri Lankan wickets, and picked up a fifth when he dismissed Maheesh Theekshana in his final over. Sri Lanka were 112, but a 56-run stand for the seventh wicket between Theekshana and Liyanage started the fight back. Ngarava finished with five for 32, his career best figures and Sri Lanka started to breath easier when he completed his 10 overs.
