MANAMA : Charles Leclerc won Formula One's season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in a Ferrari one-two finish with team mate Carlos Sainz on Sunday.
Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc rode through an epic duel with Max Verstappen and a late Safety Car period to take victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon, underlining his early-season title credentials in the process, whilst Red Bull suffered a double retirement.
Magnussen was only signed as replacement for Nikita Mazepin less than a fortnight ago, having not driven an F1 car since his stint with the team ended in 2020.
At the start of F1’s new era with the ground-effect cars, Ferrari claimed the first honours with Leclerc’s pole for the Bahrain GP, secured on his final Q3 run by beating Max Verstappen by 0.123 seconds.
Leclerc pipped Red Bull driver Verstappen by 0.123s in the third and final segment of the one-hour qualifying session, in which five cars are knocked out in Q1 and Q2 before the Q3 top-10 shootout.
