On Sunday afternoon, Scottie Scheffler picked up his fourth victory in just six starts, with a one-under-par final round securing the Green Jacket and a cool $2.7 million.
Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler captured his first major title on Sunday by winning the Masters in dominating fashion, holding firm down the stretch to seize the green jacket after Tiger Woods completed his comeback from severe leg injuries. Scheffler fired a final-round one-under-par 71 to finish 72 holes on 10-under 278 and defeat four-time major winner Rory McIlroy by three strokes with Australian Cameron Smith and Ireland's Shane Lowry sharing third on 283. "It was a long day, a tough day for me," Scheffler said. "I just tried to keep my head down and execute my shots."
Australia's Cameron Smith spent the best part of four days putting himself in position to win The Masters, but it all fell apart with one horror shot in the final round at Augusta National.
Shane Lowry produced his best major performance since winning the 2019 Open but the Irisman was left to rue a “horrendous” shot in the final round of the 86th Masters.
Although he left the charge too late, Rory McIlroy still produced an unbelievable Sunday charge, with the 32-year-old shooting an eight-under-par final round for a runner-up finish, his best ever result at The Masters.
AUGUSTA: Tiger Woods finished near the bottom of the Masters leaderboard Sunday (Apr 10), but even teeing up this week at Augusta National puts the 15-time major winner among a select band of legendary sports comebacks.
