England went one up in their three-match Twenty20 series against Australia with a thrilling eight-run win in Perth on Sunday. After Australia were set an imposing 209 for victory, the home side at one stage looked like pulling off an unlikely win on the back of a fine 73 from David Warner and some big hitting from Marcus Stoinis. But some inspired fast bowling in the latter stages from Mark Wood (3-34) and Sam Curran (2-35) saw England home as Australia finished their 20 overs eight runs short.
Cricket South Africa's premier T20 competition will get underway on January 10 next year and six teams -- MI Cape Town, Durban Super Giants, Johannesburg Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals and SunRisers Eastern Cape will be participating in the tournament. As there are only 90 odd days to go for the competition, former South Africa spinner Robin Peterson, who is also the general manager of MI Cape Town, spoke to NDTV on what to expect from the tournament.
There was controversy during the first T20I between Australia and England as Matthew Wade seemingly blocked Mark Wood from taking a return catch in Perth. In the 17th over of Australia's chase of 209, Wade top-edged a pull off Wood onto his helmet and the ball ballooned straight up in the air. The England pacer ran in towards the striker's end to try and take a return catch, but Wade, turning back towards the crease, extended his arm and restricted Wood from getting to the ball, which landed safely.

Australia vs England, 1st T20I, Live Score Updates: Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and opted to field first against England in the first T20I of the three-match series. Jos Buttler marks his return to the England team after missing the entire 7-match series against Pakistan. Australia and England are in the last leg of their preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup and these two sides would face one another in a three-match T20I series, beginning Sunday in Perth. England have Ben Stokes back in their ranks and skipper Jos Buttler who did not feature in T20I series against Pakistan, is also fit and raring to go for the series against Australia. On the other hand, hosts Australia have rested Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell for the first T20I so it is fair to say that England enter the contest as the clear favourites.
