Afghanistan pacer Naveen-ul-Haq is in the news again, as he bowled a marathon rollercoaster over during his team's first T20I against Zimbabwe. In an over that seemed like it would never get over, Naveen bowled as many as 13 balls to finally complete his over. Experienced batter Sikandar Raza was on Monday named as captain of a young Zimbabwe team for the five-match T20I series against world champions India, which begins in Harare from July 6. The African side has also named Belgium-born Antum Naqvi in the squad but his final inclusion is subject to the confirmation of his citizenship status, Zimbabwe Cricket said in a release. Naqvi was born to Pakistani parents in Brussels, Belgium, before moving to Australia, but he was considered for selection after he declared his desire to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket and applied for naturalisation.
Zimbabwe had a horror day on the field as they fumbled a golden chance to beat Bangladesh in the fourth T20I of a five-match series on Friday. Bangladesh lower-order batter Mustafizur Rahman survived two run outs in a single delivery, courtesy of Johnathan Campbell's fumble at the non-striker's end. The incident occurred on the second delivery of the 20th over of Bangladesh's innings Tanvir Islam and Mustafizur were involved in a mix-up. Zimbabwe, however, failed to capitalise, not once but twice.
Zimbabwe Cricket on Tuesday announced a 15-member squad for the three-match T20 international series against Ireland and included two uncapped players. The three-match T20I series will begin on Thursday at Harare Sports Club. Middle-order batter Brian Bennett and pace bowler Trevor Gwandu have been added to the squad against Ireland. They are among the four changes made to the side that failed to secure one of the two ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2023 places that were up for grabs at the regional qualifier tournament recently held in Namibia.
