India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat against Sri Lanka in Saturday's pink ball Test in Bangalore with a series sweep in view.
Mayank Agarwal's homecoming did not go according to plan as a big mix-up with captain Rohit Sharma ended his first Test match innings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for 4. Confusion reigned supreme in the fourth ball of the second over of the second and final Test match against Sri Lanka. Left-arm seamer Vishwa Fernando got the pink ball to nip back slightly. Mayank got himself in a bit of a tangle and the ball appeared to have hit his pad first. The Sri Lankans went up in a big appeal but the umpire did not seem convinced. While all this was happening, Mayank tried to sneak in a single without noticing that Praveen Jayawickrama, who was moving in from point to covers, had almost collected the ball. Rohit at the other end sent Mayank back but the right-hander had charged too far down the wicket. Jayawickrama just lobbed it back towards Sri Lanka keeper Niroshan Dickwella with Mayank having no chance to return to the crease on time.

IND vs SL, 2nd Test, Day 1 Live Updates: India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first against Sri Lanka in the second Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The hosts brought Axar Patel in the XI in place of Jayant Yadav. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have given a go to Kusal Mendis and Praveen Jayawickrama in place of Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Kumara. The match is a day-night affair and India will look to clean sweep the visitors, having won the first Test in Mohali by an innings and 222 runs. India have won both of their home day/night Tests -- against Bangladesh and England, respectively -- and will look to make that three against the Lankans, who are the only team to win an away pink-ball Test. India face Sri Lanka in the second Test match of their two-game series on Friday, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. In what will also be a day-night affair, the Bengaluru Test has also been allowed to have 100 percent crowd capacity by the state association due to a decline in Covid-19 cases. India won the first Test match by an innings and 222 runs with Ravindra Jadeja smashing a ton and also took nine wickets in the match. The all-rounder ended up winning the Man of the Match award for his display. India will be aiming for a clean sweep in the second Test. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will be hoping to end the series on a positive note.
MUMBAI : Injury-hit Sri Lanka will need nothing less than a miracle to deny hosts India a 2-0 sweep in the test series when the two sides meet in the second and final test in Bengaluru, which will be played under the lights from Saturday.
India demolished Sri Lanka by an innings and 222 runs in the first Test at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. India won the toss and dominated the match from the outset. Rohit Sharma got India off to a fast start but was dismissed for 29 off 28 balls while attempting a pull shot. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said that while the pull might be a productive shot for Rohit, he should put it in "cold storage" till he reaches a big enough score.
The second Test between India and Sri Lanka starts on Saturday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Having thrashed the visitors by an innings and 222 runs in the opening Test in Mohali, India will be confident going into the match in Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma-led India dominated with both bat and ball in the first Test last week, finishing it in just three days, and the skipper could be tempted to retain the same line-up. Batting first, India rode on Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten 175 to declare their innings at 574/8. In response Jadeja starred with the ball too, picking up five wickets in the first innings and four wickets in the second to help India seal victory. During the first Test, Ravichandran Ashwin went past Kapil Dev in the list of highest Indian wicket-takers in Tests while Virat Kohli played his 100th Test match.
