Former India batter Mohammad Kaif on Tuesday hailed the impact of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid in filling the gaps, saying "suddenly all looks fine" within the squad and a world beating Test unit is taking shape. "KL, Rohit, Vihari, Kohli, Iyer, Pant, Jadeja, Ash, Bumrah, Shami and many No.11 options ... Suddenly, it all looks fine. Under Rohit and Dravid, a world beating Test unit is taking shape," tweeted Kaif.
Immediately after leading the side to a 2-0 series win over Sri Lanka at home in Tests, captain Rohit Sharma joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) camp ahead of the start of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Mumbai Indians posted a video of Rohit's arrival where he was seen being greeted by head coach Mahela Jayawardene and other members of the support staff. However, this rendezvous began on a hilarious note as Jayawardene was quick to spot the "grey hair" on Rohit as he made a comment relating to the captaincy responsibilities of the Indian cricket team as well. "He has got more grey hair after beginning captaincy," joked Mahela as the Sri Lankan shook hands and shared a hug as the duo embark on another journey to reclaiming the IPL crown from defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Aim is to reach final but player management crucial, says Rohit SharmaBENGALURU: With a comprehensive 2-0 win over Sri Lanka in the home Test series, India may have climbed to the fourth position in the World Test Championship standings, but the road ahead for Rohit Sharma's men is arduous. Currently, Australia top the table with 77.77 % (56 points) with four wins and a draw. They are followed by Pakistan (66.66%; 40 points), South Africa (60%; 36 points) and India (58.33%; 77 points). India have six wins, three losses and two draws, with their chances of making a bigger impact in the nine-team table being dealt a huge blow when they lost the three-match series 1-2 against hosts South Africa earlier in the year.
India’s talented wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant continues to write his name in the record books after his heroics against Sri Lanka this month.
Rohit Sharma has started his journey on a bright note. Eleven games across formats (6 T20Is, 3 ODIs and 2 Tests) isn't a big sample size to judge someone but big enough to be hopeful that the future would be good. As a leader so far, Rohit is not just a 'Run Machine' but is also showing himself to be tactically astute.
IPL champions Mumbai Indians on Tuesday set the ground running for their 2022 campaign. The 12-day strength and conditioning pre-season camp, ahead of Mumbai Indians' first match, is being held at their in-house training facility at Reliance Jio Stadium in neighbouring Navi Mumbai. "Mumbai Indians will also play a couple of inter-squad practice matches towards the second week of the camp," a media statement issued by Mumbai Indians stated.
The Test matches against Sri Lanka at home gave India exactly what the doctor had ordered in terms of confidence and stability after enduring a tough 2-1 Test series loss against South Africa earlier in the year. Under the leadership of newly-appointed skipper Rohit Sharma, India came out trumps against Sri Lanka, who were completely outplayed by a dominant Indian side . After an innings win in the first Test in Mohali, India registered a 238-run victory to whitewash the Sri Lankans in the two-match Test series.
Suryakumar Yadav might have to sit out of the Mumbai Indians' IPL opener against Delhi Capitals on March 27 as he is unlikely to fully recover from a hairline fracture on his thumb. Yadav, one of the four players retained by Mumbai Indians, sustained the injury during the T20 series against the West Indies and subsequently missed the assignment against Sri Lanka. "Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair," a senior BCCI source privy to developments told PTI on conditions of anonymity. "So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board's medical team to not risk playing the opener," he added.
