The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 extravaganza begins on Saturday when holders Chennai Super Kings face Kolkata Knight Riders.
Mumbai Indians (MI) have over the years used different opening combinations and in the last season, Rohit Sharma had opened the batting alongside South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock. But this year, with de Kock gone, MI will have a relatively new opening combination. Skipper Rohit Sharma has finally revealed who will come out to bat alongside him in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 edition will get underway on March 26 and fans would be expecting the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians to go all the way this season, after a disappointing outing last year. The franchise has some new names in their ranks so it would be interesting to see how the management gets the best of some young names such as Dewald Brevis. Mumbai Indians will begin their campaign on March 27 against Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals.
Skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday played down talk of any advantage for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League despite them being the only team this season that will play home matches.
India's Ravindra Jadeja reclaimed the top spot from West Indies' Jason Holder in the latest ICC Test rankings for all-rounders released on Wednesday. Jadeja had risen to No. 1 after his 175 not out and nine wickets in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Mohali earlier this month. However, he had lost the place to Holder last week. But the two players have once again interchanged places with Jadeja back on top with 385 rating points. Jadeja's compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin held on to his third place among all-rounders and continued to be second in the bowlers' chart.
Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said they will have no "added advantage" of playing their IPL matches in the city's three grounds as many in the "relatively new team" have not played a single game in last two years. The IPL-15 begins at the Wankhede Stadium with a clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday. "I hope you saw the auction, relatively new team, lot of new guys have come into the team, so I don't believe in added advantage because these guys, like lot of the guys 70 (or) 80 percent of the squad has not played in Bombay before," Rohit said at a virtual press conference.
Mumbai Indians, who, buoyed by a vociferous home crowd, would tend to win all their seven games at the Wankhede Stadium, which had become their impregnable fortress. With the entire league stage of IPL-2022 happening in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Pune, MI will get to play at their bastion Wankhede after two years. In fact, they are the only team in the competition which will get to play at their home venue and home city. However, at a pre-season media conference on Wednesday which he addressed along with coach Mahela Jayawardene, skipper Rohit Sharma said he didn't think that it would be an "added advantage" for MI, as most of the players in his new-look team have hardly played in Mumbai.
Hardik's form, fast bowlers' pool key focus areas, feels former India coachNEW DELHI: The IPL is around the corner and from India's perspective, skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid will look to plug in the gaps before the T20 World Cup in Australia. Ex-India coach Ravi Shastri, who will be back in the commentary box during this season's IPL, is waiting to see the form of allrounder Hardik Pandya. Due to a lower-back injury, Pandya is yet to play any competitive match post last year's T20 World Cup in the UAE. He will captain the Gujarat Titans team. "The whole country will be very closely watching Hardik Pandya in the IPL. We all know what he is capable of," Shastri said on Tuesday during a press conference. "Rohit (Sharma) and Rahul (Dravid) would love to see how he performs. If he can bring all three aspects of his game to the fore, then it is going to be outstanding. It will be fantastic from India's point of view."
