Rohit Sharma's unbeaten 20-ball 46 helped India seal a six-wicket victory over visitors Australia in the second T20 which was cut to eight overs a-side on Friday.
Rohit Sharma displayed his six-hitting prowess with an unbeaten 46 after Axar Patel snapped two wickets in a fiery spell as India notched up a series-levelling six-wicket win over Australia in a rain hit second T20I here on Friday. The India skipper smashed four sixes and as many fours as he single-handedly helped India chase down a target of 91 with four balls to spare in a match which was reduced to eight overs a side due to a wet outfield. Scorecard | As it happenedEarlier, Matthew Wade smacked an unbeaten 20-ball 43 to fire Australia to a 90 for five. Wade hit four boundaries and three towering sixes -- all in the final over off Harshal Patel (0/32) -- while skipper Aaron Finch hit 31 off 15 after Rohit invited Australia to bat in a match that was delayed by two-and-half hours. Chasing the target, Rohit made his intention clear as he went on a six-hitting spree, unleashing three monstrous hits off Josh Hazlewood in the opening over to give India's chase a flying start.
After a forgettable Asia Cup campaign, where it failed to qualify for the final, the Indian cricket team started off their T20I series against Australia with a four-wicket loss. Despite putting up a 208-run total, a tame Indian bowling attack could not defend the high target. The worst part about the team is that with five more official T20Is left before the opening T20 World Cup game against Pakistan on October 23, the Indian team looks highly unsettled.
Harshal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah is expected to give the struggling Indian attack a much-needed boost. The Rohit Sharma-led side has not only been out of sorts in the middle overs but also at the death. With Harshal making a comeback in Mohali and Bumrah getting fit ahead of the second T20I in Nagpur's VCA Jamtha, India's middle over and death overs dilemma is expected to be addressed during the second T20 International against Australia on Friday.
One eye on skies as Rohit's side looks to level series; Bumrah likely to playNAGPUR: Fresh from shocking defeats in Asia Cup, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had nonchalantly said he has found '90-95 percent' core of his team for the World Cup. Cut to a couple of weeks later, lively talks on India's death bowling are still afloat. India's derailment in the death overs twice in this month means the auditions for death over specialists are well and truly on.
India had a disappointing night after they lost against Australia in the first T20I of the three-match series on Tuesday. Despite putting up a great show with the bat and posting a target of 209, the bowling department completely failed to live up to the expectations as Australia chased down the huge target with four wickets and four balls in hand. In the second T20I, which will be played in Nagpur on Friday, Team India will look to strengthen their bowling, especially the pace attack, as in the last clash, the pacers conceded 150 runs in just 12 overs. Another thing that came as an utter shock for the fans was the absence of pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who was supposed to make his comeback in the match. It will be interesting to see whether Bumrah makes his comeback or not, and if he makes it, then who he will be replacing in the Playing XI.
Hyderabad Stampede: Four people were injured after a stampede broke out at Gymkhana grounds following a stampede which happened after massive amount of cricket fans gathered to purchase tickets for the third T20I match between India and Australia. The third T20I stadium between India and Australia will take place in Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on September 25. A huge crowd had come to the Gymkhana grounds to purchase tickets. A large queue of fans was captured waiting to get their hands on tickets.
Seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar's lacklustre performances in the end overs are disrupting India's plans for the T20 World CupOn August 28, when Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 4-26 to play a key role in India's thrilling five-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan in the Asia Cup at Dubai, few thought that, with just a month left before their 2022 T20 World Cup opener against the same opponents, India's sole 'T20 specialist' bowler would become a source of one of India's biggest worries. In three out of India's last four matches, Bhuvneshwar has been taken to the cleaners in the penultimate over. Everything that he has tried-yorker, wide yorker, slower ball, knuckle ball or a bouncer, has failed, as he has ended up becoming cannon fodder for batsmen waiting to pounce on his friendly medium pace.
