Suryakumar Yadav continued his good form as the Indian team had a fine outing against Western Australia Cricket Association XI, beating the hosts by 13 runs in its first practice game ahead of the T20 World Cup in Perth on Monday. The Indian team, which has been training at the WACA for the past three days, wanted to get used to the pace and bounce of the track as the visitors scored 158 for six in their stipulated 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and a half-century from in-form Suryakumar Yadav powered India to a 13-run win over Western Australia in their ICC T20 World Cup warm-up match on Monday. Rohit Sharma-led Team India have already arrived in Australia to kickstart their preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. In order to prepare themselves to the best of their ability, the side would be facing Western Australia XI in two-practice games, with the first being played on Monday. The match will start at 1:30 PM local time (11 AM IST) and the side might try out different permutations and combinations to give everyone a fair go. After these practice games, the side will also play two warm-up fixtures against New Zealand and Australia, before playing their first match of the tournament on October 23 against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Australia will attempt to defend the trophy they won in Dubai last year when they host the T20 World Cup this month.
India's strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai feels the team is often "rushed" into big tournaments and the ongoing preparatory camp ahead of the T20 World Cup will give the players much needed time to unwind as well as work on their specific skills to deal with Australian conditions. India had their first training session here on Friday and will be playing two warm up games on October 10 and 13 before they travel to Brisbane for the ICC organised practice matches ahead of their World Cup opener against Pakistan in Melbourne on October 23.
The Indian cricket team is in Australia for the T20 World Cup, looking to win the title for the first time since MS Dhoni lifted the trophy in the maiden edition in 2007. The Indian team has come close a coupe of times, losing the final in 2014 and in the semi-final in 2016. But the team had a terrible outing in the tournament last year, failing to move past the Super 12 stage.
