India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant says that he remains flexible when it comes to his batting position.
Rishabh Pant says the team is looking at exploring as many options as possible in the build-up to the T20 World Cup, which is to take place in eight month's time. Pant, who was appointed vice-captain in the absence of KL Rahul for the ongoing T20 series against the West Indies, smashed a brisk half-century in the team's win in the second game here on Friday night. Among other questions, he was also asked about the plans for the T20 World Cup in Australia. "There's still time for the World Cup, so the plan is to try out as many options as possible," the 24-year-old said at the post-match media interaction. "We are trying to find out which positions suit whom and how they can benefit the team. So we're trying out several options, whatever seems right for the team eventually will be final."
Former India skipper Virat Kohli and wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant will be rested for the third Twenty20 international against West Indies and the upcoming series against Sri Lanka, a board member told AFP on Saturday.
Rishabh Pant said that he is completely fine with wherever the side wants him to bat and believes that more one practices, the better a person becomes. Pant was one of the architects with the bat for India's impressive 186 in the second T20I against West Indies on Friday. He scored an unbeaten 52 off just 28 balls. Apart from his blazing knock, Pant shared a vital 76-run partnership with Venkatesh Iyer (33 off 18 balls), which helped India put up a big total and then defend it for an eight-run win to mark their 100th T20I with a series triumph.
Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant hit attacking half-centuries to set up India's eight-run series-clinching victory over West Indies in the second T20I on Friday.
India opener KL Rahul and teammate Virat Kohli continued to occupy the fourth and 10th spot respectively in the latest ICC men's T20 batting rankings released on Wednesday. No Indian featured in the top 10 of the bowlers and all-rounders' list. The recent run of form from Australia pacer Josh Hazelwood has been rewarded as he rose to a career-high second place in the bowling rankings. The right-armer jumps four spots on the latest rankings, ahead of Adil Rashid, Rashid Khan and teammate Adam Zampa and is only behind South Africa's Tabraiz Shamsi at the top of the charts.
Avesh Khan is going through one of the best phases of his career currently. With an India cap knocking on the doors, the lanky fast bowler shattered records in the recently-concluded IPL auction 2022 in Bengaluru. Avesh become the most expensive uncapped cricketer in the history of IPL auctions when Lucknow Super Giants acquired him for a whopping Rs 10 crore. While Avesh expected a few franchises to show interest in him after his breakthrough performance for the Delhi Capitals last year, the final price tag was way more than what he imagined. The right-arm pacer was traveling with a few of the Indian cricketers when his name came up in the auction. He even received an ovation from his teammates after he was sold for a record amount but what touched him even more was Rishabh Pant's gesture when he landed in Kolkata to join the rest of Indian squad members ahead of the T20I series against West Indies.
India batting coach Vikram Rathour said the team has not yet decided whether it would be experimenting again in the T20I series against the West Indies by opening the batting with Rishabh Pant. The wicketkeeper-batter opened the batting in the second ODI against the West Indies last week and batted at No.5 when Shikhar Dhawan was back in the mix in the final match. "We haven't really decided that yet, we still have a couple of days to go. We had a travel day and rest day, so today we have our first practice day, once we get to look at the wicket and the kind of surface we are playing," said Rathour while replying to an ANI query during a virtual press conference on Monday.
