Reece Howden, the 2020-21 World Cup's top-ranked racer in men's ski cross, stood atop the medal podium for the first time this season on Sunday in Reiteralm, Austria, a year to the day of his victory in Russia.
World and Olympic Champion Sandra Naeslund won a seventh straight women's ski cross World Cup race in Reiteralm. The Norwegian superstar took first spot in the season's penultimate event, ahead of Canada's Marielle Thompson to move within two victories of Franny Smith's all-time record of 29 wins. Ad/> Thompson was quicker out of the gate, but Naeslund made a crucial pass after the roller section to gain a lead she would not lose.
Ryan Regez won gold in the ski cross big final, whilst compatriot Alex Fiva finished second, and Sergey Ridzik claimed bronze medal. After finishing 31st in the qualifying round and 2.9 seconds off the pace, Team GB’s Ollie Davies was placed in a difficult seed for the 1/8 finals. Davies struggled to catch-up after an early mistake forced him towards the back of the pack, which ultimately saw him face elimination.
