NEW DELHI : India completed a 3-0 series sweep against Sri Lanka after Shreyas Iyer's third successive half-century secured a six-wicket victory in the final Twenty20 International in Dharamsala on Sunday.
Just a day after clinching yet another T20I series win, India will take on Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala. Shreyas Iyer rose to the occasion once again as he smashed a fine 74 after coming into bat at no 3. Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja also earned plaudits for their cameo as India chased down a daunting total of 184 last night at the same venue. India could make a couple of changes for the dead rubber against Sri Lanka, who will look to end the series on a high note ahead of the two Tests next month. The likes of Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Siraj might get a chance to test themselves.
Shreyas Iyer smashed an unbeaten 74 as India beat Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second Twenty20 international to clinch the series on Saturday.
India skipper Rohit Sharma on Saturday heaped praise on the team's batters, saying it was pleasing to see the middle-order shouldering the responsibility after the early dismissals of openers. "I think it was pleasing to see for us the middle order coming out and performing. It is good to see those guys taking the responsibility and finishing off games. To finish the way they did was really good," Rohit said at the post-match presentation after India defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in the second T20 in Dharamsala. After the early dismissals of Rohit and Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer hit a whirlwind unbeaten 74 as India registered the comfortable win to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
The in-form Shreyas Iyer continued to impress with his dazzling strokeplay as his unbeaten 44-ball 74 powered India to a series-clinching seven-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the second T20 International on a chilly Saturday evening in Dharamsala. Ravindra Jadeja blasted 45 off 18 balls as India chased down the target of 184 with 17 deliveries to register their 11th straight win in the format. Sanju Samson contributed 39 off 25 balls. India were dealt a massive blow early on as they lost their captain Rohit Sharma for one in the final ball of the first over, the successful bowler being Dushmantha Chameera. Rohit was out bowled after Chameera delivered a short-of-a-good length ball that was angling back into the right-hander.
India will eye a series-clinching win over Sri Lanka when the two teams meet in the second T20I of the three-match series at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday. After winning the first T20I by a margin of 62 runs, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will look to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final T20I to be played just a day after at the same venue. Ravi Bishnoi could return to the mix in place of veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. India were ruthless in both the departments in the first T20I, and will hope to pull off something similar in the second match.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja imitated actor Allu Arjun's popular dance move from the recent hit movie ‘Pushpa' after taking a wicket against Sri Lanka in the opening T20I of a three-match series, in Lucknow on Thursday. Jadeja, who was making his international return after sitting out in recent months due to injury, dismissed Sri Lanka batter Dinesh Chandimal in the 10th over of the visitors' innings. Jadeja proceeded to celebrate the wicket with a dance move popularised by Allu Arjun from the ‘Srivalli' song in the movie Pushpa. Videos of Jadeja's move went viral on social media and former India cricketer Murali Kartik, who was in the commentary box at that time even termed him as "Ravindra Pushpa."
