New Zealand skipper Tom Latham on Friday won the toss and elected to bat against India as the tourists look for a series sweep in the third Test in Mumbai.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir on Thursday confirmed that uncapped seamer Harshit Rana will not take part in the upcoming third Test match against New Zealand in Mumbai. According to a report by ESPN on Tuesday, Harshit Rana was added to the India squad for the third Test match against New Zealand. However, India's coach cleared the rumours ahead of the third Test. Harshit Rana has been with India's white-ball teams ever since a breakout Indian Premier League (IPL) season in 2024 with champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), in which the pacer took 19 wickets at an average of 20.15 in 13 matches.
Chennai Super Kings are preparing for life after their charismatic wicket-keeper batter MS Dhoni and the five-time champions have identified Rishabh Pant as their top target in the IPL 2025 auction. Dhoni is expected to be retained by the franchise as an 'uncapped player' thanks to the new rule but the franchise are looking at a future plan. According to a report by Indian Express, India star Rishabh Pant has emerged as the top pick for CSK. The franchise is keen on buying Pant if he enters the auction pool and that is mainly the point that has governed their planning for the IPL 2025 retentions.
Skipper Rohit Sharma backed Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja's performance following India's defeat in the second Test match against New Zealand and said that there's too much expectation on the two all-rounders. Tom Latham's New Zealand team made history by defeating Rohit's side by 113 runs in the second Test match at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Saturday, clinching their first-ever series win in India. This loss marks India's first home Test series defeat since 2012, ending an 18-series winning streak--the longest home winning sequence for any team.
The legendary MS Dhoni all but confirmed his attention to continue playing cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL), as he dropped a subtle hint over his participation in the T20 league. When Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were approached for a reaction, the franchise's CEO Kasi Viswanathan also said that they are happy to see Dhoni being ready for another season of the IPL. What follows next is a call from Dhoni to the franchise owner N Srinivasan to finalise the retention list ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh feels five-time champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will retain stalwart MS Dhoni, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Rachin Ravindra and pacer Matheesha Pathirana ahead of the 2025 IPL mega auction. The veteran spinner expressed his uncertainty over Dhoni's Indian Premier League (IPL) future but asserted that if he is available he would be the first choice of the Chennai-based franchise. The IPL franchises can retain a total of six players from their existing squad. This can be either via retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja pulled-off a stunning run out on Day 3 of the ongoing second Test against New Zealand in Pune. The dismissal helped India bowl New Zealand out for 255 in the second innings. The incident happened on the 4th ball of the 70th over of New Zealand's innings. Glenn Phillips and Will O'Rourke tried to steal a couple of runs after the former hit Jadeja's short-pitched delivery towards deep cover. While it seemed that Phillips and O'Rourke would settle for a single, Washington Sundar was a bit late to react.
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Thursday became the all-time wicket-taker in the history of the World Test Championship (WTC). Ashwin achieved the milestone on Day 1 of the ongoing 2nd Test against New Zealand in Pune. Ashwin, who had 186 wickets prior to the start of the match, needed to two scalps Australia spinner Nathan Lyon in the all-time list. After New Zealand opted to bat in Pune, Ashwin dismissed Tom Latham and Will Young to overtake Lyon.
