Chahar had to miss the IPL due to a hamstring injury, while a back injury ruled Bumrah out of the World Cup. Former India allrounder, coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has resting a top India player for a few games in the IPL is an area his former 1983 World Cup winning teammate Roger Binny, who is set to be the new BCCI president, must look into when he resumes office. "With the volume of cricket that exists today, it's extremely important that you get the balance right of how much a player plays. When should he be rested? And there, a (BCCI) president can play a big role. Tomorrow, if a cricketer, for the sake of playing for India, needs to be rested in the IPL for a certain number of games, so be it. Where, a (BCCI) president has to sit with the franchise and explain that he's extremely important for India first, and then the franchise," Shastri stressed while talking to veteran journalist Ayaz Memon at a 'Meet-the-media programme' at the Mumbai Press Club on Wednesday.

Though Kuldeep is gradually making a comeback in white-ball cricket, he still remains far from being given an opportunity in Tests. Deepak Chahar is likely to miss the remaining two games due to a twisted ankle sustained during a training session before the first match against South Africa in Lucknow. Chahar wasn't a part of the Indian playing XI as Shikhar Dhawan's side lost by nine runs in the opening match with the visitors scoring 250 in just 40 overs. "Deepak has sustained a twisted ankle but it's not too serious. However a few days of rest might be advisable," a source privy to selection issues, told PTI on conditions of anonymity. "So it will be team management's call if they would like to risk Deepak as he is in T20 World Cup stand-by list. In any case, if there is requirement there, it would be a priority." As of now, Jasprit Bumrah's replacement in the T20 World Cup squad is Mohammed Shami, who is slowly and surely getting match-fit and is expected to fly to Australia within the next three to four days.
India's preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup received a major jolt as premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury. Team India are yet to name a replacement for Bumrah and there are three names that are floating around -- Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj and Deepak Chahar.
