Like Helmets In Cricket Kit, Embrace Media And Technology: Ravi Shastri To Players

"Media and technology are like helmets in a cricket kit," former India captain and coach Ravi Shastri said on Friday, urging players to "embrace" both as without them, the sport wouldn't have evolved the way it did in the last 40-45 years. Shastri said while there were only two mediums -- radio and Doordarshan (TV) -- during his playing days, the game has come a long way after India won the 1983 World Cup. "India has won a lot of tournaments in the last 40 years since we first won it in 1983. We made people dream," the 62-year-old Shastri said during a panel discussion on 'Intersection of Sports, Technology, Entrepreneurship and Media' at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES). "But you need the support. It's like you had pads in your kit bag, you had a cricket bat in your kit bag, media is part of the kit bag. Media and technology is like a helmet in your cricket bag; you jolly well embrace it." Shastri said technology, especially, is an essential element of sport now and players need to know how to use it to build themselves.

Ravi Shastri Urges BCCI Selectors To Consider In-Form IPL Star For England Tests

Former head coach Ravi Shastri sees young Sai Sudharsan an all-format batter, who deserves to be in the India side for the Test series against England later this year. India will start the new World Test Championship cycle (2025-2027) with an away five-Test series in England with all eyes on the squad selection following their 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home and a 1-3 defeat against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Tests. Shastri says Sudharsan, currently second on the list of highest IPL run-getters so far this season with 456 runs for Gujarat Titans, is a classy left-hander who will do well in English conditions given his technique and his county stint.

Rohit Sharma's Incredible Gesture For Vaibhav Suryavanshi After RR Star's 2-Ball Duck

Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Suryavanshi couldn't continue his hot form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, as he was dismissed for a 2-ball duck against Mumbai Indians on Thursday. Vaibhav came into the fixture on the back of a lot of hype, having become the youngest batter to score a century in the IPL in the previous fixture. But, the Mumbai Indians battle turned out to be completely different for Vaibhav as he failed to even open his account. As RR ended up losing the game by a margin of 100 runs, MI superstar Rohit Sharma's gesture for the teenager went viral.

"Means Business Game After Game": Ravi Shastri Backs Ignored India Star To Make Comeback During England Tests

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri believes the fit-again pace trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj will be lethal for England batters in the upcoming five-match Test series starting in June. India faced challenges in that series due to the unavailability of their pace attack, as both Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah dealt with injury setbacks. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj, who had struggled during the Border-Gavaskar series, was omitted from the squad for the ICC Men's Champions Trophy 2025.

Watch: SRH Star Produces 'Catch Of IPL', Kavya Maran's Reaction Can't Be Missed

Sri Lanka and Chennai Super Kings' batting all-rounder Kamindu Mendis pulled off a sensational catch during the side's IPL 2025 match vs Sunrisers Hyderabad at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday. CSK batter Dewald Brevis smashed a powerful flat shot down the ground at long-off where Mendis was stationed. It was a half-volley from SRH pacer Harshal Patel and Brevis had slammed it really hard. The ball was curving away from Mendis but the ambidextrous jumped to his left to take a superb catch. "Catch of IPL," said former India captain Ravi Shastri on-air. Meanwhile, his fellow commentator Ian Bishop, a former West Indies player said, "Which is his weak side we never know." Even SRH CEO and co-owner Kavya Maran was also left impressed with the catch.

Glad That Shreyas Iyer And Ishan Kishan Have Got Back Their Central Contracts: Ravi Shastri

Former India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri said he is pleased Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have been reinstated in the recent men's central contracts list. Both Iyer and Kishan were left out in the previous edition of the annual retainers due to not playing domestic games, but were recently brought back on the list for the 2024/25 season. "I thought seeing Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan back in the mix, because what transpired there was between the team management, the BCCI and the individuals involved. I'm glad that there was communication, things have been sorted out and they get back their contracts.

"No Excuses For This": Ravi Shastri Rips Into CSK As MS Dhoni-led Side Slumps To 103/9 vs KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders produced an inspired bowling effort to restrict Chennai Super Kings to a lowly 103 for 9 in an Indian Premier League match here on Friday. Sent into bat, CSK never really got going as they lost wickets at regular intervals to be limited to their lowest total at home. Shivam Dube ( 31 not out), Vijay Shankar (29) and Rahul Tripathi (16) were the main run getters for CSK.
