Suryakumar Yadav smashed 83 off 44 balls as India beat West Indies by seven wickets in the third T20 international in Guyana on Tuesday to keep the series alive.
India made some interesting changes going into the must-win match against West Indies in the third T20I of the five-match series. The hosts are leading the series 2-0 in the series and one more win will see them pocket the series. Going into the must-win encounter, India made two changes - Yashasvi Jaiswal replaced Ishan Kishan while Kuldeep Yadav came in for Ravi Bishnoi.
There were some bizarre scenes in Guyana on Tuesday as India got ready to face West Indies in the must-win third T20I against West Indies. After the team got to the field, they looked at each other aimlessly and eventually left the field. It was due to the ground-staff forgetting to mark the inner circle. While the match was due to start at 8 pm IST, it got delayed by at least five minutes as the groundstaff hurriedly came back on the field to mark the circle.
West Indies continued to surprise the cricket world, securing another impressive victory over the Indian team in the 2nd T20I on Sunday. Hardik Pandya's men continue to remain second-best in the T20I series. While there remain multiple concerns for the Indian team, especially among batters, the manner in which the West Indies team countered India's spinners was also impressive. In fact, West Indies skipper Rovman Powell admitted after the match that there was a deliberate plan from his players to counter the spin threat posed by Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravi Bishnoi in the series so far.
India will need to bat with the fearlessness they often talk about as they look to avoid a series defeat in the third T20 International against the West Indies in Guyana on Tuesday. The slow pitches on offer have not been the best for batting but as skipper Hardik Pandya pointed out after the loss on Sunday, India should have a found way to score additional 10-20 runs. India, who last lost to the West Indies in a bilateral T20 series back in 2016, trail 0-2 in the five-match series. The shortest format demands the batters to go hard from ball one and that is something India's top-order, comprising Ishan Kishan, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav, have not been able to do.
Ishan Kishan tried to outsmart Rovman Powell from behind the stumps but ended up waiting a bit too long before taking the bails off during the second T20I match between India and West Indies in Guyana on Sunday. During the 7th over of the match, Ravi Bishnoi bowled a delivery wide off leg stump but Kishan was able to collect it properly. However, he held his position and waited for Powell to lift his leg so that he can try the stumping. However, when he ended up dislodging the bails, it was a bit too late as the batter was already back in his crease and his plan did not materialise in the way that he would have wanted.
An explosive half-century by Nicholas Pooran defied a brilliant power-play spell by Indian skipper Hardik Pandya and some brilliant bowling in death overs as the hosts West Indies secured a hard-fought two-wicket win over the Men in Blue in the second T20I of the five-match series at Guyana on Sunday. India trails by 2-0 in the series. In the chase of 152, West Indies was off to a nightmarish start when Hardik Pandya got rid of Brandon King (0) and Johnson Charles (2) in the first over itself. WI was restricted to 2/2 in the first over itself. Suryakumar took a stunner of a catch to dismiss King while Charles was caught by Tilak Varma at cover point.
Suryakumar Yadav's disappointing run of form continued as the Indian cricket team batter was run out for just 1 following a brilliant direct hit from West Indies' Kyle Mayers during the second T20I encounter in Guyana on Sunday. Ishan Kishan played a ball from Obed McCoy with soft hands and immediately called for a quick single. However, Mayers was extremely agile at mid-wicket and he quickly collected the ball and completed an impressive direct hit. The on-field umpire went for a review but replays made it clear that Suryakumar was well short of his crease and was dismissed cheaply once again.
