India's tour of the Caribbean concluded in disastrous fashion as they were brushed aside by a resurgent West Indies team in Florida on Sunday.
India's head coach Rahul Dravid didn't shy away from admitting failures in the batting department, especially with regards to the long tail after the Indian team slumped to a series defeat against West Indies. Dravid, speaking at the post-match press conference on Sunday, said that plenty of work needs to be put in order to solve the 'batting depth' puzzle that has troubled the Indian team for long.
India must improve their batting depth with the 50-overs World Cup on the horizon, coach Rahul Dravid said after his team lost their Twenty20 series against the West Indies 3-2 in Florida on Sunday.
The Indian cricket team is set to embark upon a new adventure on the tour of Ireland in the T20I series. While head coach Rahul Dravid has been given a rest for the assignment, even VVS Laxman, who usually steps into Dravid's shoes in such cases, will not be touring with the boys. In the absence of the two India stalwarts, the young Indian team will see former domestic stalwart Sitanshu Kotak taking up the role of the head coach. Kotak is presently the head coach of the India A team at the NCA.
There remains a big debate over Suryakumar Yadav's place in the Indian ODI team. The batter is widely considered No. 1 in the T20I format but he is some distance away from realising his potential in the 50-over format. Though the Indian team remains buoyant over the long-term plans involving Suryakumar as India's No. 4 batter, the Mumbai Indians star still needs to fire and replay the faith shown in him by the team. As the clock for the ODI World Cup squad selection keeping ticking, former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) chief selector MSK Prasad feels Surya will definitely be a part f the mega event.
Superb batting from Suryakumar Yadav has kept India alive in the T20 series against West Indies and he hopes to replicate that form in the 50-overs format where he has done less well ahead of the World Cup later this year.
Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid has been facing quite a bit of criticism following the team's disappointing show in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies. The Hardik Pandya-led side were defeated in the first two games of the five-match series and that prompted several ex-cricketers and experts to question his contributions as a coach and how much he has helped the side in getting ready for the ODI World Cup 2023. However, former India fast bowler Dodda Ganesh came in defense of Dravid and said that he has become a ‘soft target' for critics of late.
India head coach Rahul Dravid has seen many questions being raised over his position in the team, especially in T20Is. Even when India made a plethora of changes in the ODI series against West Indies, Dravid had found himself in the line of fire. After the Indian team lost the first two T20Is against West Indies, Hardik's captaincy credentials also came into the line of fire. The expectations from Hardik are to repeat the sort of success he has had with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League. But, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria feels the Hardik needs someone like Ashish Nehra to do that, and not Rahul Dravid.
