As one of the biggest tournaments on the tennis calendar, Wimbledon always has plenty of star power. Over the last 20 years, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams have been three of the biggest names to play at the Grand Slam. Ad But this year things look a little different.

The 36-year-old Serb, who has won the last four titles at the All England Club, opens proceedings on Centre Court where he has not lost in 10 years. Unheralded Pedro Cachin of Argentina, the world number 67 and making his main draw debut at the tournament, plays the role of unwitting fall guy.
At the peak of his early prime, Tiger Woods won nine of the 20 tournaments he entered in 2000. He won three majors and finished second in four other tournaments. It was conceivably the best year of golf we've ever seen. Entering the Open Championship at St. Andrews, he was a +150 betting favorite. That's equivalent to saying he had a 40% chance and the other 157 golfers in the field had a combined 60% chance. Serbian great Novak Djokovic said he is hungry for more success as he begins his Wimbledon title defence, searching for a 24th Grand Slam singles title.
German-born British tennis player Jan Choinski makes his Wimbledon debut on Monday, hoping skills picked up as a ballet dancer will help him pirouette into the second round. "It will be a totally new experience for me. I cannot be more thankful," said the 27-year-old journeyman who has taken an unusual route to tennis's most prestigious event. Both his parents were professional ballet dancers. His mother Dominique was born in Singapore, the daughter of a naval officer, before she moved to live in Southampton on the English south coast.
Novak Djokovic has Roger Federer's record of eight Wimbledon titles as well as a 24th major in his sights as he closes in on a first calendar Grand Slam in 54 years. Fresh from breaking out of a tie with Rafael Nadal for 23 Slams at the French Open, the 36-year-old Djokovic will comfortably be the overwhelming favourite at the All England Club when he starts his title defence on Monday. With a 10th Australian Open and third Roland Garros already wrapped up this season, an eighth Wimbledon triumph would leave Djokovic needing just the US Open in September to emulate Rod Laver's sweep of all four majors in 1969.
Novak Djokovic welcomed suggestions he is the BOAT — ‘best of all time’ — and believes that such discussions only help the sport of tennis. Winning the French Open earlier this year saw him become the record-holder for most Grand Slam wins in men’s tennis, with 23 titles.
