British tennis player Jodie Burrage won hearts with a great gesture during her first her first round Wimbledon match against Lesia Tsurenko on Monday. At the start of the second set of the match on Court No. 18, one of the ball boys nearly fainted. Burrage stopped the match and attended him. She even provided him candies and energy gel before the ball boy was helped off the court. "He just said he was feeling really faint. He couldn't actually really talk. It was quite distressing to see," Burrage was quoted as saying by CNN.
Rafael Nadal and Iga Swiatek will be among the star attractions on day two at Wimbledon, with seven-time champion Serena Williams also set to make her grand-slam return.
Serena Williams returns to singles tennis at Wimbledon after a year away on Tuesday as Rafael Nadal begins his quest to win the third leg of a potential calendar Grand Slam. Women's top seed Iga Swiatek, who has won her past six tournaments, will kick off proceedings on Centre Court at 1330 local time (1230 GMT) against Croatian qualifier Jana Fett. But the main focus will be on seven-time champion Williams, who faces unseeded Harmony Tan of France in her first singles match since an injury forced her to pull out of her first-round match last year.
Novak Djokovic dropped a set on the way to the second round at Wimbledon on Monday and did not look like the Mr Consistency who has become the first player to win 80 singles matches in each of the Grand Slam tournaments. But his opponents know that once the Serbian finds his 2022 grass legs, they will more than likely follow first-round victim Kwon Soo-woo out of the event. Djokovic had played no competitive tennis on grass coming into the tournament and ground out a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory against the lively South Korean. "I did not start or did not play at my best but I think when I needed to find the right shots, I did," Djokovic said. "I know I can do better." The top seed won three out of four Grand Slam titles last year but lost in the U.S. Open final in September then caused controversy when he arrived to defend his Australian Open title only to be held and then deported because he was not vaccinated against COVID-19.
