England batter Jacob Bethell has been awarded a central contract upgrade, signing a two-year extension until September 2026, the country's cricket board (ECB) said on Wednesday.
England's young star Jacob Bethell is looking forward to playing alongside Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and India stalwart Virat Kohli in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Bethell became RCB's latest acquisition in the recent IPL 2025 mega auction for Rs 2.6 crore. The 21-year-old attracted bids from Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings but both franchises failed to overcome RCB's resolve. Bethell will link up with his England teammates Phil Salt and Liam Livingstone at RCB but it is Virat he is most excited to rub shoulders with. "It's a bit of a given, isn't it? "Virat! He's a great of the game so... King Kohli," Bethell said, with a wry smile, as quoted from ESPNcricinfo.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are done with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction, buying some top players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Phil Salt, Tim David, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma etc. However, what the franchise failed to get in the auction is a captaincy candidate. While rumours of Virat Kohli being keen to take up the leadership role himself have been circulating before the start of the auction, RCB icon AB de Villiers has now confirmed the same, saying the India star will take up the role next season.
The beauty of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction lies in the fact that players from humble beginnings and backgrounds can become millionaires overnight, as billionaire owners invest to find the right fit for their team. It was much the same in the IPL 2025 auction, which ended up seeing the most money ever spent in any auction, at a whopping INR 639.15 crore. Some players ended up receiving huge increments, with wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma seeing a salary hike of an incredible 5,400 percent.
England all-rounder Liam Livingstone expressed his excitement after he was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, stating that his new team would be a better fit for his playing style next season.
RCB Full Squad, IPL 2025: RCB enter Day 2 of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction with a purse of Rs 30.65, the most among all the franchises. After signing six players on Day 1, RCB signed all-rounder Krunal Pandya as their first player on Day 2 for a sum of Rs 5.75 crore. However, the franchise hogged all the limelights with acquisition of pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar for Rs 10.75 crore. England all-rounder Liam Livingstone became RCB's first signing at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. He was bought for a sum of Rs 8.75 crore. Apart from Livingstone, RCB also bought the likes of Phil Salt, Jitesh Sharma, Josh Hazlewood and Rasikh Dar. They had retained the likes of Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal ahead of the auction. (Full Squad)
KKR Full Squad, IPL 2025: After buying back four players from their IPL 2024-winning squad, including all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for a sensational Rs 23.75 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders head into Day 2 of the IPL 2025 mega auction looking to fill gaps in their middle order and buy adequate backups for their existing stars. KKR enter Day 2 with an auction purse of Rs 10.05 cr, and still require at least five players to reach the minimum squad requirement of 18 players. (Full Squad)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) said that the decision to bring England opener Phil Salt was influenced by the fact that he is explosive and can take on anyone in the powerplay. Salt, came in at Rs 2 crore. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru and MI were locked in a fierce bid, with the price escalating rapidly. After MI decided to opt out of the race, KKR entered the fray. RCB raised the bid to Rs 8 crore, and KKR came right at it with Rs 8.25 crore. The bid reached Rs 9 crore and eventually zipped past Rs 10 crore. Both tables pondered on their next move, and RCB eventually sealed the deal at Rs 11.5 crore.
