NEW DELHI : This year's World Test Championship (WTC) final will again be a party without hosts, leaving England fans wishing their team's 'Bazball' revolution had been sparked a little earlier.
Former Australia cricket captains Allan Border and Michael Clarke on Monday denounced the team's batting performance against India, calling the second innings collapse "panicky" and ill-executed.
Former Australia skipper Mark Waugh was involved in a spat with out-of-favour India player Dinesh Karthik on Sunday. Both the former internationals -- who are part of the official broadcaster's commentary panel for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy -- differed with each other's opinions. It all started with Waugh's dissatisfaction with the field set by Australia skipper Pat Cummins during the fourth innings of the second Test match between India and Australia in New Delhi. Back-to-back counter questions from Karthik to Waugh irked the Australian star before he lost his cool and Sanjay Manjrekar had to intervene to calm things down.
The 2023 Border-Gavaskar series is going from bad to worse for Australia. While skipper Pat Cummins had to fly back home due to an illness in the family, marquee pacer Josh Hazlewood has now been ruled out of the entire series, having failed to recover from an Achilles injury that has been troubling him since the New Year's Test in Sydney. But, that's not all. reports in Australian media suggest that the likes of David Warner, Ashton Agar, and Matt Renshaw could also be heading home.
Hazlewood, who has played 59 Tests for Australia so far, had missed the first two Tests in the series because of the injury he sustained in the third Test against South Africa in Sydney in January.Any changes to the squad will be announced on Wednesday once the selectors and medical staff have deliberated, a team spokesman said.
unforgettable tour of India, with two defeats in two Tests back to back taking away the chance of reclaiming the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and leaving them to correct a lot of mistakes, as pointed out by former skipper Michael Clarke.India hammered the Aussies by an innings and 132 runs in Nagpur and followed it up with a six-wicket win in Delhi to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series. Clarke feels the biggest mistake Australia made was not playing a tour game ahead of the four-Test series that began February 9.Instead, Pat Cummins chose to simulate Indian conditions back home before having a short camp near Bengaluru ahead of the series opener in Nagpur.
