Eyeing an unprecedented five gold and a dozen medals in total, the first batch of the Indian contingent, including star javelin thrower Sumit Antil, left for the Paris Paralympics in advance to get acclimatized to the conditions. The 16 para athletes will stay at hotels in Paris for a few days before entering the Games Village on August 25, three days before the Opening Ceremony. The likes of Antil, who is bidding to become the first Indian to defend his Paralympics gold, will train at facilities near the French capital to acclimatize with the weather conditions there.
All eyes will be on javelin thrower Sumit Antil at the upcoming Paralympics in Paris. The Tokyo 2020 champion will be aiming to defend his title and Antil is taking a lot of inspiration from his able-bodied counterpart Neeraj Chopra, who won silver at the recently-concluded Paris Olympics. Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) vice president Satya Prakash Sangwan was on Tuesday appointed as the chef de mission of the Indian contingent at the upcoming Paris Paralympics. Sangwan brings with him over a decade of dedicated service and experience within the Paralympic movement. As the CDM, he will lead India's largest-ever contingent of 84 para-athletes competing across 12 sports disciplines. "It is a great honour to be entrusted with this responsibility. I am committed to ensuring that our athletes have everything they need to succeed and make India proud at the Paralympics," Sangwan.
