India's Simran Sharma qualified for the women's 100m -T12 final after finishing second in the semifinal 2, clocking 12.33 sconds at the Paris Paralympics, here at the Stade de France on Thursday. Accompanied by her guide Abhay Singh, the 24-year-old reigning world champion Simran finished second behind Katrin Mueller-Rottgardt of Germany in the semifinal 2. Simran sealed her place in the final as the third fastest runner. As per the rule, the first-placed runner in each semifinal and the next 2 fastest advanced to the final. Omara Durand of Cuba topped the first semifinal.

Indian shooters failed to make the final of the mixed 50m rifle prone (SH1) competition at the Paralympic Games here on Thursday. Mona Agarwal, 36, the winner of the bronze medal in the 10m air rifle (SH1) competition at the Games, finished 30th with an aggregate of 610.5 across six series. Sidhartha Babu, who had ended 28th in the mixed 10m air rifle prone (SH1) qualification a few days back, too could not raise the level of his game to finish 22nd with a total of 615.8. Spain's Juan Antonio Reinaldo topped the qualification with a score of 626.9.

Para-athlete Deepthi Jeevanji on Thursday arrived at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital after her bronze medal triumph at the ongoing Paris Paralympics. Along with Jeevanji, other para-athletes from the Indian contingent also arrived in the national capital on Thursday. Jeevanji won the bronze medal in the women's 400m T20 final on her debut at the ongoing Paralympics. The 21-year-old was quick off the blocks but fell short towards the final phase of the race and finished behind Ukraine's Yuliia Shuliar and Turkey's Aysel Onder in Paris.

Indian discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya on Wednesday said he needs to work on his mental strength of his game after clinching yet another silver medal at the Paris Paralympics, marking his fifth consecutive second-place finish since the Tokyo Games three years ago. The 27-year-old from Haryana achieved a season-best throw of 42.22m in the discus throw F-56 on Monday but admitted he has not been at his best mentally. "I have lacked in mental strength. I will have to build up more, just as it was before, in 2022. Since I got injured, due to cervical, it has come down," Kathuniya told PTI during an interaction.

Ajeet upstaged compatriot and world record holder Sundar Singh Gurjar (64.96m) with a fifth-round throw of 65.62m to achieve the glory. A podium finish at the sports' biggest extravaganza was nothing short of a dream for Ajeet, who was certainly at the lowest point in his life seven years ago.
