HS Prannoy Loses In Second Round Of Malaysia Open 2025

Indian shuttler HS Prannoy's valiant fight ended in a narrow loss to China's Li SHi Feng in the men's singles second round at the Malaysia Super 1000 badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday. The 32-year-old Indian, returning to action after the Paris Olympics, recovered from an opening-game reversal to stay in contention but fell short, losing 8-21, 21-15, 21-23 in an hour and 22 minutes to seventh seed Li. Earlier, the women's doubles pair Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a 21-15, 19-21, 19-21 defeat to China's Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in their round of 16 match.

No Longer Running National Camps, Athletics Federation Of India To Monitor Athletes For Dope Testing

The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) on Wednesday brushed aside concerns that more doping cases could embarrass the country in future following closure of national camps, saying that it will continue to monitor the athletes and share relevant information with the NADA. The AFI decided to end national camps after the Paris Olympics, except for the relay teams which will still be under the direct supervision of the national body. For a long time, AFI has a policy of not picking non-campers for relay teams in view of the fact that they cannot tested frequently. The athletes can now train at the National Centers of Excellence which are under Sports Authority of India (SAI) or they can choose private bodies like the JSW, Reliance and Tata. They can also train at centers attached with states or with Army, Navy or Air Force.

Star shuttlers Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu will headline host India's largest-ever contingent at the India Open Super 750 badminton tournament, starting in New Delhi from January 14. With top stars like Olympic champions Viktor Axelsen, An Se Young, and world No. 1 Shi Yuqi leading the field, top-tier action is expected at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium. A total of 21 Indian players, including three men's singles, four women's singles, two men's doubles, eight women's doubles, and four mixed doubles pairs, will compete in the USD 950,000 BWF World Tour event, which offers 11,000 ranking points for the champions.
