The first batch of the Nigerian contingent to the just-concluded Paris 2024 Olympic Games are expected to return to the country today. The Guardian learnt, yesterday, that the first set of athletes would depart the Olympics Village this morning, while the second batch will leave tomorrow.
Pakistan's javelin throw star Arshad Nadeem had a heartwarming message for Neeraj Chopra's mother after she said that he was "like her son". Nadeem scripted history by becoming the first athlete from Pakistan to win an individual Olympics gold medal as he claimed the top prize in men's javelin at the Paris Olympics 2024. Nadeem came up with a mammoth 92.97m throw to break the Olympic record and it was enough to beat Neeraj who could only manage to win silver with his season-best throw of 89.45m. Following the event, Neeraj's mother - Saroj Devi - was asked about Nadeem and she said that he is also like a son to her. Nadeem responded to her statement and said that he was grateful for the fact that she prayed for him as well and said that she is also like a mother to him.
The entire Pakistan has been showering great love on Arshad Nadeem for his heroics in the recently-concluded Paris Olympics. The star javelin thrower bagged a gold medal for Pakistan in the event, which happens to be the nation's first-ever top honour in an indiviual sport at the Games. To make things better, Arshad achieved it with an Olympic record of 92.97m. The country as well as its government had a lot of faith in the athlete and he repaid all of that with his incredible performance.

Rai Benjamin anchored the United States to victory in the Paris Olympics 2024 men's 4x400m relay in Paris on Saturday. Benjamin, the winner of the 400m hurdles gold, helped the US quartet also featuring Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood and Bryce Deadmon to an Olympic record of 2 minutes and 54.43 seconds. Botswana, with 200m champion Letsile Tebogo on their fourth leg, took silver in an African record of 2:54.53, while Great Britain claimed bronze in a European record of 2:55.83. The US team's individual 400m gold medallist in Paris, Quincy Hall, was not a starter in the relay.
