Nick Kyrgios was involved in a heated altercation with the umpire over a time violation before composing himself to down world number six Stefanos Tsitsipas 5-7 6-2 6-4 and advance to the quarter-finals of the ATP 500 Halle Open on Wednesday (Jun 15).
Once again it’s Nick Kyrgios’s on-court antics in the spotlight after his impressive 7-5 6-2 6-4 win over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Terra Wortmann Open in Halle to reach the quarter-finals. In what might be described as another fiery incident — similar to what we saw in last week’s Stuttgart Open defeat to Andy Murray — Kyrgios was given a warning after smashing his racquet on the floor in frustration at losing the opening set.
HALLE, Germany (AP) — The second-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated Benjamin Bonzi 7-6 (1), 1-6, 6-3 in the first round of the Halle Open on Tuesday, when there were also wins for Felix Auger-Aliassime and Nick Kyrgios.
Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's battling performance in the final match of his career proved to be a source of inspiration for compatriot Gilles Simon, who defeated Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta in a gruelling five-setter at the French Open.
The French Open is back with the second Grand Slam of the season.
Order of play on the main showcourts on the third day of the French Open on Tuesday (play begins at 0900 GMT unless specified, prefix number denotes seeding):
Novak Djokovic extended his record at the top of the ATP rankings to 370 weeks on Monday while Rafael Nadal drops down a place to number five. The Spaniard was knocked out of the Italian Open in the last 16 and is leapfrogged by the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas who made it all the way to the final where he was turned over in straight sets by an inspired Djokovic.
