After taking its first Manufacturer and King of the Weekend crowns of the season at the fifth round of the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup, Race IT, Hyundai Motorsport N is determined to continue its winning ways. Mikel Azcona was the man of the moment for the squad as he scored maximum points in every round at Vallelunga but there were strong performances from the other three Hyundai Motorsport N drivers as Nicky Catsburg and Jean-Karl Vernay secured a Hyundai Veloster N ETCR 1-2 in Pool Furious Quarter Final 2, with Norbert Michelisz taking victory in Pool Fast’s Quarter Final 2.
Norbert Michelisz continued his strong scoring run in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup with fourth place in both races at WTCR Race of Italy last weekend. One of several drivers experience of Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi was limited to testing prior to the event, the BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse driver was taking part in his 99th and 100th WTCR Races.
Néstor Girolami got his bid to win the WTCR − FIA World Touring Car Cup back on track with his second victory of the season in the searing Italian sunshine.
Hyundai Motorsport N’s Mikel Azcona and Norbert Michelisz took a brace of Pool FAST Quarter Final wins in the heat of Vallelunga leaving a trio of their rivals with tyre issues as two CUPRAs and one Romeo Ferraris had to limp to the line. The first Pool FAST Quarter Final saw a familiar three-wide battle into T1 with Azcona emerging ahead of Bruno Spengler (Romeo Ferraris) and Adrien Tambay (CUPRA EKS).
Néstor Girolami set the fastest lap of the WTCR Race of Italy weekend to bag pole position for Race 1 at Autodromo Vallelunga Piero Taruffi, as the ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport Honda knocked Mikel Azcona off the top spot in the Q3 shootout. Girolami clinched his second pole of the season with a lap of full commitment to demote Azcona, with Norbert Michelisz, Nathanaël Berthon and Esteban Guerrieri completing the top five.
Hyundai Motorsport N’s Mikel Azcona got the fifth round of the FIA ETCR eTouring Car World Cup off to a flying start by topping both of the Pool FAST qualifying sessions at Vallelunga for this weekend’s Race IT. Azcona was visibly on the limit in both sessions and was the only driver to set a time in the 1m 19s with a 1m 19.885secs lap over two tenths quicker than current points leader, CUPRA EKS driver Adrien Tambay’s 1m 20.105s best.
It’s all about the momentum for Norbert Michelisz in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup. The Hungarian former King of WTCR starts the home event of his Italian team, BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse, fresh from his season-best weekend at WTCR Race of Portugal earlier this month.
