Tennis’s most impossibly glorious streak is somehow still gathering pace. Three weeks ago, 25-year-old Tim van Rijthoven had never won a match on the main ATP tour and was ranked 205 in the world. Now, after rattling off an extraordinary eight-match winning run – including five victories over players in the top 30 – he will face Novak Djokovic in the last 16 of Wimbledon on Sunday. Most likely on Centre Court. No, Tim, you’re not dreaming. Tennis’s Cinderella Man really is coming to the ball.
LONDON : Dutch wildcard Tim van Rijthoven continued his fairytale grasscourt run on Friday, claiming his eight straight victory on the surface to storm into the Wimbledon fourth round on his Grand Slam main draw debut.
The 25-year-old was ranked 205th in the world and had not won a title even on the Challenger Tour when he triumphed at the ATP 250 grasscourt event in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, defeating world number one Daniil Medvedev 6-4 6-1 in the final. "From the outside it obviously looks like a fairytale because it came out of nowhere for a lot of people," Van Rijthoven told reporters after defeating 22nd seed Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia 6-4 6-3 6-4 in the third round. "Also, the ATP title for me came out of nowhere because I didn't even win a challenger title before.
The full draw, and results, from the men's singles event at The All England Lawn Tennis Championships, Wimbledon, 2022.

Nick Kyrgios believes he is in the “top five or top 10” ATP players on grass at the moment, saying he is comfortable on the surface.
