Just like the previous editions, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises once again broke the bank for some of the biggest names in world cricket at the recently-concluded IPL auction last week. While some players were roped in for whopping amounts, some players failed to find buyers. England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan, who had captained the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) last season, remained unsold despite multiple rounds of bidding. Speaking on his YouTube channel, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt said he was surprised to see the likes of Morgan failing to get any buyer.
Elated after his Rs 10.75 crore IPL payday, West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran gave his teammates a pizza party inside the bio-bubble, ordering 15 pizzas that cost him Rs 15,000. Pooran had endured an abysmal IPL 2021 season for Punjab Kings scoring 85 runs at a poor average of 7.72 and in the ongoing series too his performances have been below par. But despite his poor run, Sunrisers Hyderabad went all out for the Windies lefthander." "Since outside food is not allowed he placed the order at the hotel chef for 15 pizzas," the local manager told PTI.
Their players may have earned hefty deals at the IPL mega auction but West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard on Tuesday said its time to move on and focus on international cricket as his team looks to tame India in the T20 series. From the large pool of available players, 14 West Indians were chosen to join Pollard, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell, who were retained by their respective franchises ahead of the auction, making up the largest number of foreign players in the IPL, from any territory outside of India.
