With Team India set to face West Indies in the third and final T20I at the Eden Gardens on Saturday, veteran spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is on the cusp of achieving a massive T20I record. Chahal is just one wicket away from surpassing pacer Jasprit Bumrah as India's leading wicket-taker in the format. Chahal and Bumrah are tied on 66 wickets each, but the former has played 52 matches so far as compared to the latter's 55. Chahal will aim to overtake Bumrah in the elite list. Meanwhile, Chahal took just one wicket on Friday as India defeated West Indies by 8 runs to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Rovman Powell says his side is improving with every series in run up to the World Cup and the ongoing T20 contest against India is a proof of that. West Indies threatened to chase down a stiff 187 set by India in the second T20 on Friday before falling short by eight runs to concede the series.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar said his plan in the slog overs of the second T20I was to back himself with the yorkers and despite the dew, he pulled it off to ensure a narrow eight-run win for his team. With West Indies needing 29 off the last two overs, Kumar took out Nicholas Pooran and conceded just four singles in the penultimate 19th over to give Harshal Patel 23 runs to defend, which he did to seal the T20I series in India's favour. "I was just believing in myself. Rohit told me that if I can give just 9-10 runs, it will be difficult for them, so I just backed myself with the yorkers. There was a bit of dew, but I still backed myself and it came out well," said Kumar to broadcasters 'Star Sports' after the match.
Rishabh Pant on Friday laid the foundation of India's series-clinching win over the West Indies in the second T20I at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Pant, who failed to impress in the first T20I, scored an unbeaten 52 off just 28 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter struck seven boundaries and a six, which has caught the attention of the cricketing fraternity. On the first ball of the 19th over of India's innings, Pant hammered Jason Holder for a massive six over deep square leg.
