MIAMI GARDENS, Florida: Four-time defending Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen and partner Kelly Piquet have announced the arrival of their first child.
Max Verstappen has been withdrawn from his scheduled media commitments for this weekend’s Miami Grand Prix ahead of the birth of his first child.
Newly-crowned four-time world champion Max Verstappen faces a ban next year if he collects four more penalty points on his super licence following his crash in Sunday's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The 27-year-old Dutchman attempted to pass McLaren's Oscar Piastri on Turn One on the opening lap of the race won by Lando Norris of McLaren, but crashed into his rival's car sending them both spinning. Both recovered to join the race before Verstappen was given a 10-second penalty and two points on his licence, taking him to eight in the last 12 months. If he reaches 12 within a year, he will be given an automatic ban. For Verstappen, who finished sixth on Sunday as McLaren clinched the constructors' title thanks to Norris's success, this means he must avoid penalties in the opening 11 races next season.
ABU DHABI : Quadruple Formula One world champion Max Verstappen announced on Friday he was expecting his first child with Kelly Piquet, daughter of Brazil's triple champion Nelson Piquet.
SAO PAULO : Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto would have a seat in Formula One next season if triple world champion Max Verstappen was making the decision.
Carlos Sainz announced Monday that he had signed a two-year deal to race for Williams starting from the 2025 season amid what he said was an "exceptionally complex" market for Formula One drivers. The 29-year-old Spaniard will leave Ferrari at the end of the 2024 campaign after seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton was announced as his replacement at the Italian giants earlier this year. Sainz has won three F1 races so far in his career, the most recent at the Australian Grand Prix in March.
Max Verstappen clinched his third consecutive world title on Saturday when he finished second behind rookie Oscar Piastri in an incident-filled sprint race at the Qatar Grand Prix, describing his success as "fantastic". It was a fine maiden Formula One victory for Australian 22-year-old Piastri, but his feat was overshadowed by Verstappen's achievement, the Dutchman having required only three points to take the title. His only rival and Red Bull team-mate Sergio Perez was involved in a collision and retired, making him the first "Saturday champion" since Nelson Piquet, father of his girlfriend Kelly, in South Africa in 1983.
DOHA :Max Verstappen added his name to the list of triple Formula One world champions on Saturday after Red Bull team mate and sole title rival Sergio Perez crashed out of the Qatar Grand Prix sprint race.
