India vs Australia LIVE Updates, 3rd Test Day 2: Although rain is on the cards on Day 2, more action is expected to take place in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane. Only 13.2 overs of play were possible on Day 1 after Rohit Sharma had put Australia in to bat. India could not pick any Australian wickets in that spell, who batted and blocked out the duration with a cautious defensive approach. Usman Khawaja picked up three boundaries en route to 19*, while Nathan McSweeney is only on 4. India's pace attack is expected to play a big role amid the damp and overcast conditions. Only 13.2 overs were bowled on Day 1 of the 3rd Test between India and Australia with rain causing an early suspension to the day's play on Saturday. Put into bat by India captain Rohit Sharma, Australia finished the day on 28-0 with Usman Khawaja 19 not out and Nathan McSweeney unbeaten on four. The rain persisted throughout the day and the umpires eventually called off play midway through the final session. To make up for the lost overs, the play will begin 30 minutes prior (5:20 AM IST) to the scheduled start (5:50 AM IST), but only if the weather allows.
Star India batter Virat Kohli on Saturday achieved yet another milestone in his illustrious career when he took the field against Australia on Day 1 of the 3rd Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Kohli became only the second player to feature in 100 or more international games against Australia, joining the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in the elite list. In his 24-year-long career, Tendulkar played 110 matches against Australia. As far as Kohli's record against Australia is concerned, he has played 28 Tests, 49 ODIs and 23 T20Is, scoring scored 5326 runs in 117 innings at an average of 50.24 including 17 centuries and 27 half-centuries.
Local hero Usman Khawaja and young Nathan McSweeney displayed sound defensive technique against Jasprit Bumrah but persistent rain played havoc with the opening day of the third Test, allowing only 13.2 overs of play in which Australia scored 28 for no loss against India in Brisbane Saturday. The gloomy weather didn't allow any action after the rain-curtailed first session. The weather in Brisbane indicates a start-stop game throughout the next four days. Khawaja (19 batting, 47 balls) and McSweeney (4 batting, 33 balls) traded aggression with caution but the senior left-hander still got a couple of boundaries when Mohammed Siraj pitched it short.
:India's bowlers were left frustrated and wicketless as rain wiped out most of the opening day's play in the third test against Australia in Brisbane on Saturday.
Indian cricket team fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was booed heavily by a part of the crowd at The Gabba, Brisbane on Day 1 of the third Test match against Australia on Saturday. As Siraj got ready to bowl the second over of the Australian innings, boos rang from different parts of the ground. The reaction was because of the controversy surrounding Siraj and his send-off to Travis Head during the second Test match in Adelaide. Siraj and Head were both punished for the controversy with the India fast bowler ever receiving a 20 per cent fine while Head was sanctioned and awarded one demerit point.
:India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first in the third test against Australia at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday.
