Batting first, opener Devon Conway's 87 off only 51 balls and Ruturaj Gaikwad's smashing 79 off 50 deliveries ensured a healthy 223 for 3 CSK. Conway's innings comprised 11 fours and three sixes while Gaikwad hit seven sixes apart from three boundaries as they added 141 for the opening stand. In reply, DC managed only 146 for 9 with skipper David Warner's 86 off 58 balls being the only saving grace.

Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy bagged two wickets each as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed to restrict Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a total of 144/6 in 20 overs in their IPL 2023 match on Sunday. Narine, who has been under the scanner for his performances so far this season, bowled an economical spell of 2/15 as he cleaned up Ambati Rayudu and Moeen Ali in the 11th over of CSK's innings. Ambati Rayudu's poor season continued as he fell for just 4 after a failed attempt to sweep Narine.

In the 18th over of the run chase, Wayne Parnell played a shot off Matheesha Pathirana to extra-cover and bolted for a single. On the non-striker end, Suyash Prabhudessai was caught napping and Moeen Ali had a brilliant chance to run him out. However, Moeen was unable to gather the ball properly and by the time he threw it to Dhoni, the batsman was safely inside the crease. Dhoni was visibly agitated by the effort and he even gestured in anger towards the England international.
