Star India batter Virat Kohli was dismissed for an 8-ball 7 in the first innings of the second Test against Australia in Adelaide on Friday. Fresh from smashing his 30th Test century last week in Perth, Kohli failed to deliver in the first installment of the pink-ball Test on Day 1, perishing against a short of length delivery from Mitchell Starc that rose sharply and caught him at slips. The dismissal was similar to his wicket in the 1st innings in Perth when Josh Hazlewood troubled him with a similar ball, inducing an inside edge that was gathered at slip.

Australian players on Friday wore black armbands during the second pink-ball Test against India here in memory of former cricketers Phillip Hughes and Ian Redpath. Former Australia opening batter Hughes died in 2014 after being struck on the head by a short ball during a Sheffield Shield match. Redpath, also an opener, passed away earlier this month. Cricket Australia had earlier decided to commemorate the 10th death anniversary of Hughes during the day/night match. A documentary on the life of opening batter was also displayed at the Adelaide Oval before the start of play.

"He's hopeful. He, Nathan and I were in the gym during the week in Sydney. He's obviously here with us in Adelaide. So he's just getting some work done. Hopefully, he'll have a role at some point," Starc said, adding, "It's certainly not a big (tear). I think he caught it early enough and had the awareness of the discomfort to get it without having a big rip in it. We are very hopeful that - whether he takes part in Brisbane or not - (that he will play) still in this series," said Starc on cricket.com.au's Unplayable Podcast episode.
