Mickey Arthur has been appointed Pakistan team director and has targeted winning this year's 50-over World Cup in India.
Pakistan appointed Mickey Arthur as team director of their men's national cricket team Thursday, with the goal of winning this year's 50-over World Cup in India.
Pakistan Cricket Board on Thursday confirmed Mickey Arthur's appointment as the men's team director, a post which will ensure him play a major role in the preparations for the 50-over World Cup to be held in India later this year. In his role, the 54-year-old Arthur, who served as Pakistan head coach between 2016 and 2019, will be involved in designing, formulating and overseeing strategies for the men's team.
Pakistan have appointed their former coach Mickey Arthur as director of cricket, the cricket board (PCB) said on Thursday.
Pakistan on Friday appointed Grant Bradburn as the head coach of their men's team for their upcoming limited-overs series against New Zealand. Bradburn, 56, played seven Tests and 11 one-day internationals for New Zealand before taking up coaching. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) added that Andrew Puttick of South Africa will join the staff as batting coach. The head coach position fell vacant after Saqlain Mushtaq's term ended in February. Abdul Rahman filled in for the three Twenty20s against Afghanistan last month.
Former Proteas fast bowler Morne Morkel is the new bowling coach for Pakistan.
Former Pakistan skipper and coach Misbah-Ul-Haq opines that the likely re-hiring of Mickey Arthur as national men side's coach is a "slap on Pakistan Cricket". Arthur is likely to return to Pakistan as its team director following Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Najam Sethi's arrival. Misbah blamed former Pakistan players for damaging the credibility of the system and making PCB look outside the home territory for coaching roles. Pakistan's talks with Arthur had failed earlier on three occasions, but PCB kept persisting. Arthur had previously coached the side from 2016 to 2019. It is understood that the board is close to agreeing to a deal with him as a team director, rather than a head coach.
