Australia made light work of the highest chase in Women's ODI World Cup history to beat an erring India by six wickets and seal their semifinal berth here on Saturday. Half-centuries from skipper Mithali Raj (68 off 96, Yastika Bhatia (59 off 83) and Harmanpreet Kaur (57 not out off 47) steered India to 277 for seven. The total had never been chased before in tournament history but considering Australia's ominous form and batting friendly conditions at Eden Park, the Meg Lanning-led side cruised to their fifth win in as many games.
MATCH BLOG: AS IT HAPPENDIndia, the 2017 edition finalists, failed to defend a total of 277 as Australia overhauled the target, scoring 280 for 4 in 49.3 overs to continue their unbeaten run in the showpiece event. Australia's top-order fired in unison as Meg Lanning (97) anchored the chase with a 107-ball 97.

Kaur remained unbeaten on 57 while Vastrakar got out on the last ball of the innings as she scored 34 runs off 28 balls. However, half-centuries from Yastika Bhatia (59) and Mithali Raj (68) helped India recover in the middle-overs and laid down a perfect platform for batter to hit towards the end. (LIVE SCORECARD)
Mithali Raj-led India will take on Australia in their fifth game of the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup at the Eden Park, Auckland on Saturday. India currently have two wins and two losses in four games and a win against Australia will keep the hopes intact of reaching the semi-finals. Right now, Mithali and team are at the fourth spot in the points table. The side had last suffered a defeat against England in the competition.
Star India batter Smriti Mandhana on Friday said the team is seeking to draw motivation from the performance on the 2021 tour of Australia when the two teams clash in a crucial Women's ODI World Cup match on Saturday. In the series played last year, India lost 1-2 but ended Australia's 26-match winning streak. India had also famously derailed Australia's chances in the 2017 World Cup by beating them in the semifinals.
Women's World Cup here on Saturday if they want to bring their campaign back on track. In the preceding series against New Zealand, Indian bowlers struggled to find rhythm but in the World Cup, the batting performance has been inconsistent with the team sitting at two wins and as many losses after four games. With three leagues games remaining, India must gain consistency in all departments and maintain their place in the top four to qualify for the semifinals. "If I had an explanation (for batting inconsistency), I would have definitely discussed in the dressing room. In the NZ series, our batters did well, the last four matches (in WC) the batting has not clicked as a unit and it is something we need work on," said star opener Smriti Mandhana ahead of the Australia clash. "I am confident tomorrow will be a perfect game for the batters. The bowlers are doing an amazing job for us, they need more support from batters." With four wins out of four games, Australia have looked unstoppable but if there is one team that can halt their juggernaut, it is India.
