Pant scored a counter-attacking century off just 89 balls as India managed to recover from a top-order collapse. The 24-year-old hit 15 boundaries and a six en route the 100-run mark. With India reeling at 98 for five, Pant and Ravindra Jadeja stitched an unbeaten partnership for the sixth wicket and took India past the 200-run mark.

India were in trouble on Day 1 of the ongoing 5th Test against England at Edgbaston, having lost Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli in quick succession after the start of the second session. Rishabh Pant, however, hit a counter-attacking half-century to rescue the team from 98/5, with the help of a good partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. During the knock, he took the attack to Jack Leach, who he loves to bat against, hitting him for two consecutive boundaries before coming down the track to hit him for a huge six down the ground.
Young paceman Matthew Potts dealt India the biggest blow on day 1 of the first Test at Edgbaston when he managed to send Virat Kohli out after the Indian batter chopped on while trying to leave a well pitched up delivery way outside the off stump. The dismissal on 11 meant Kohli's barren patch in international cricket continued. He had looked steady even as wickets fell around him but Kohli once again found a new way to get out.
