SOUTHAMPTON, New York, June 19 : Wyndham Clark held a three-shot lead early in the second round of the U.S. Open on Friday at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club where pre-tournament favourites Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy were among the late starters and have work to do to get back into contention.
Former champion Wyndham Clark was grateful for an early two-hour fog delay as it allowed him to take advantage of relatively benign conditions late in the day to soar to the top of the US Open first-round leaderboard on six under.
With first round play suspended due to darkness, Wyndham Clark holds a huge lead at the top of the 2026 U.S. Open odds board at -6, which has also propelled him to the top of the tournament winner odds board at +330. Clark won the 2023 U.S. Open as a pretournament 100-1 long shot, but came into this week's competition at Shinnecock Hills at a much more manageable 45-1.
Scottie Scheffler will be favored heading into the 2026 U.S. Open — his 15th consecutive major as the pre-tournament favorite or co-favorite — but his odds to complete the elusive career Grand Slam are not quite as short as bettors are used to.
