Liverpool moved to within a single point of Premier League leaders Manchester City after beating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, extending their run to nine consecutive victories in the process. The Reds were second best in the opening period but came out swinging after the restart, Diogo Jota breaking the deadlock in the 54th-minute and substitute Roberto Firmino scoring a quick-fire second.
The Gunners have won five in a row to move into fourth place and Mikel Arteta’s side are brimming with confidence ahead of this massive clash. Arsenal’s youngsters have stepped up in recent weeks with Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe all scoring important goals. Alexandre Lacazette’s leadership up front has been crucial too, but it is Arsenal’s newfound defensive solidity which is key to their impressive consistency. Gabriel and Ben White have been rock solid at center back, (Granit Xhaka and Thomas Partey have been excellent in front of them too) while Aaron Ramsdale has been sensational in goal with Arsenal conceding just four goals in their last six games. If they can finish the season strong and finish in fourth place to seal a return to the Champions League for the first time since the 2016-17 season, it would be a heck of an achievement by Arteta. They have only lost once at home this season (to Man City) and have won nine of their last 11 games to push them into fourth.
Patrick Vieira has sent Mikel Arteta a warning after it has emerged that the Spaniard’s Arsenal system is starting to replicate Pep Guardiola’s ideologies at Manchester City. The pair worked together for three years at Manchester City so it is no coincidence.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has told Arsenal what they need to do to beat his old side in Wednesday night's Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.
Edu’s time at Arsenal since joining in 2019 has been heavily questioned due to the failure at times to negotiate the best deals for players joining and leaving the club. The Gunners have faced back-to-back eight place finishes with the Brazilian taking plenty of the blame.
Tottenham Hotspur hero Gary Lineker has been left red-faced eight months after making a thinly-veiled dig at Arsenal.
