LOS ANGELES: The ball hit by Japanese superstar Shohei Ohtani for his 50th home run of the season sold for a record-breaking US$4.39 million, auction house Goldin said on Wednesday (Oct 23).
Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Shohei Ohtani's 50th home run ball from this MLB season has sold for $4.392 million at auction, shattering the record paid for a baseball — or any sports ball, for that matter.
The Athletics played their final game at the Oakland Coliseum in 2024, marking the end of an era for the franchise that has called the stadium home since 1968. The team will play in Sacramento for at least three seasons before officially relocating to Las Vegas.
Shohei Ohtani is on the precipice of becoming the first player in MLB history with 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in a season. He's also looking to become the first player in the storied history of the Los Angeles Dodgers to hit 50 home runs in a single campaign.
