PARIS : Italian Jannik Sinner retired injured from his fourth-round French Open clash against Russian Andrey Rublev after a good start to the match on Monday.
Day 9 of the French Open sees the fourth round of the singles draw to a close, with women’s No. 1 seed Iga Swiatek and men’s No. 2 seed Daniil Medvedev the headline acts.
French Open. Medvedev, ranked second, claimed top spot in late February but was overtaken by Novak Djokovic just two weeks later. The Russian can ascend the summit once again if he reaches the final at Roland Garros.
Daniil Medvedev, determined not to be remembered for his short-lived stay at world number one, said that he is targeting a return to the top with a stellar showing at the French Open.
World number two Daniil Medvedev eased into the fourth round at the French Open on Saturday, defeating Serbian 28th seed Miomir Kecmanovic 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. Medvedev will play former US Open champion Marin Cilic or 37-year-old Frenchman Gilles Simon for a place in the last eight.
Daniil Medvedev was not troubled as he secured his place in the fourth round of the French Open 2022 on Saturday. The second seed, who is grateful to be on the opposite side of the draw to world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, 13-time champion Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, swept past Miomir Kecmanovic 6-2 6-4 6-2 in one hour and 48 minutes.
Cameron Norrie sunk to a disappointing defeat to Marin Cilic in the last 32 of the Italian Open in Rome. Ninth seed Norrie had admitted to feeling «very nervous» at the start of his previous match in the Masters 1000 event — a win over Italian wildcard Luca Nardi — and it seemed to be the same story on Grand Stand Arena on Wednesday night as Cilic stormed into a 5-2 lead in the first set.
Alexander Zverev has admitted he may be running out of time in tennis if he is to get the success he wants from his career. The German, 25, is currently playing the Madrid Open, where he beat Marin Cilic in the first-round before a walkover win against Lorenzo Musetti. He'll now play Felix Auger-Aliassime in the last eight.
