Australian T20 World Cup winners Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have both been retained by their English franchises for this season's second running of the controversial Hundred.
Glenn Maxwell and South Africa's Faf du Plessis were among several overseas stars announced Tuesday to have signed up for the 2022 edition of English cricket's the Hundred. The second season of the eight-team, 100 balls-per-side tournament will also feature some of the world's leading women's players in Australia's Ellyse Perry and Alyssa Healy, India's Smriti Mandhana and South Africa's Lizelle Lee.
David Warner, Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins, will miss the start of the IPL despite skipping the limited overs series against Pakistan, which is set to coincide with the lucrative T20 league. Though the BCCI hasn't officially announced the dates of IPL 15, the league is expected to begin in the last week of March.
Australia's star players, including David Warner, Josh Hazelwood and Pat Cummins, will miss the start of the IPL despite skipping the limited overs series against Pakistan, which is set to coincide with the lucrative T20 league. Though the BCCI hasn't officially announced the dates of IPL-15, the league is expected to begin in the last week of March. Warner, Hazelwood and Cummins are part of the Test squad for the series in Pakistan, starting March 4-25, but will be skipping the limited overs assignment, beginning March 29.
Pat Cummins and opening batsman David Warner will not feature in limited-overs meetings with Pakistan next month after they were left out of the squad for a trio of one-day internationals and a Twenty20 clash. Cummins and Warner, along with bowlers Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon, have been included in the squad for Australia's three-Test tour of Pakistan, but will not be involved following the conclusion of that series. Australia will be embarking on their first trip to Pakistan since 1998, playing Test matches in Rawalpindi, Karachi and Lahore before returning to Rawalpindi for limited-overs matches from March 29 to April 5. Aaron Finch will lead a 16-man limited-overs squad that includes Test players Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith.
AUS vs SL 5th T20I Live Updates: Australia skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bat in the fifth and final Twenty20 international against Sri Lanka at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. The home side are looking for a clean sweep against the visitors after winning all four previous games, including a six-wicket win in the last clash on Friday. With bowling spearheads Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc again rested, Jhye Richardson, Daniel Sams and Kane Richardson continue to shoulder the pace attack. Sri Lanka made three changes with Kamil Mishara coming in for underperforming opener Danushka Gunathilaka while Janith Liyanage replaces Dinesh Chandimal at number five. Both are making their debut. Spinner Jeffrey Vandersay, who has been costly in the last two games, was axed with slow left-armer Praveen Jayawickrama taking his place. (Live Scorecard)
Australia's scorching-hot form has created exactly the kind of problems the selectors want heading towards the T20 World Cup defence.
Aaron Finch could bat as low as five if needed, the 35-year-old said as the team experiments with strategies ahead of its Twenty20 World Cup defence on home soil this year. The T20 World Cup is set to be played in October-November, with Australia beginning their title defence with a rematch of last year's final against trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand.
