Rhythm Sangwan became the 16th Indian shooter to win a Paris Olympic quota place with a bronze medal in the 25m sports pistol event at the Asia Qualifiers in Jakarta on Thursday. A supremely confident Manu Bhaker was at the top of her game as she entered the 10m women's air pistol final, salvaging the day for Indian shooting after an underwhelming start by her compatriots in the Olympic Games on Saturday. The 22-year-old Bhaker shot 580 to finish third in the qualifications in which Hungarian ace Veronika Major claimed the top spot with a score of 582. The other Indian representative, Rhythm Sangwan, ended 15th with a score of 573. The final will be held on Sunday. Reduced to tears following her forgettable outing in her Games debut in Tokyo three years ago, Bhaker is seeking to add an Olympic medal to her very excellent resume.

Paris Olympics 2024, Day 1, Live Updates: Manu Bhaker, Rhythm Sangwan In Pistol Qualification Spots After Series 1

Paris Olympics 2024, Day 1, Live Updates: Shooters Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwam will aim to qualify for the Women's 10m air pistol final. Earlier, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema failed to qualify for the Men's 10m Air Pistol final after finishing 9th and 18th, respectively. Sarabjot was in contention to qualify for the final, but failed to grab the final spot by just one point. This comes after two Indian pairs failed to make it to the final of the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event. On the other hand, rower Balraj Panwar finished 4th in Heat 1 of the men's individual skulls. With only 3 automatic qualification spots from each Heats, Balraj will have to rely on the repechage round. (Day 1 Schedule | Medals Tally)
