In the first-ever corporate round-table conference, Mandaviya presented a vision to position India among the top-five global sports performers by 2047, as the nation marks 100 years of its Independence. Aiming to bridge the gap between aspirations and execution, he stressed the critical role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) in building sustainable sports infrastructure and talent development programmes.

NEW DELHI :India's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games has been approved by the country's federal government, which hopes staging it will benefit local businesses and inspire a new generation of athletes.

This was conveyed by the cash-rich cricket body in a meeting with sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Thursday. The gathering also featured "representatives from 58 corporate houses". "Mr Rajeev Shukla, who represented the BCCI in this meeting, said that the Board is willing to adopt two to three Olympic disciplines and would leave it on the ministry to decide what those disciplines would be," a source in the sports ministry said.

The last date to submit the 'Expression of Interest' to host the Games was March 31 and India's letter was sent by the Indian Olympic Association a few days ago. "Yes, it is true, India's bid has been submitted by the IOA and the state of Gujarat," the source stated. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, on Tuesday, emphasized that revoking Wrestling Federation of India (WFI)'s suspension was essential to allow Indian grapplers' participation in upcoming tournaments, failing which would have been an "injustice" to the athletes. The Ministry has lifted the suspension on the WFI, bringing an end to the months of uncertainty and paving the way for the resumption of activities, including selection trials for the upcoming Asian Championship in Amman. "According to the High Court order, it was necessary to recognize WFI so that we can send our wrestlers for the Asian Championship and World Championship. Otherwise, it would have been an injustice to the future of our country's wrestlers," Mandaviya told reporters.
